What’s happened to Seven’s well known Sydney reporters?
I’ve watched a bit of the Morning News this week & seen randoms like Ashlea Mullaney, Jessica Dietrich & Peter Fegan.
Where’s Chris Reason (seems to be either reserved for major news or sent overseas)? Alex Hart (well he’s in the US)? Robert Ovadia (who knows)? Paul Kadak? Damien Smith? Chris Maher?
Must be only used for 6pm or on holidays.
Just happened to see all these younger and unknown reporters out of nowhere
I’m sure that reporters like Ashee Mullany (ex-Daily Telegraph), Jessica Dietrich (ex-Macquarie National News) and Leonie Ryan (ex-2UE News) would be familiar with the Sydney news landscape, but yeah I’ve also noticed how it’s mainly the recent additions to Seven’s Sydney newsroom that have been reporting on the 6pm bulletin this week. I daresay that most of Seven’s senior reporters have probably been taking a break for this non-ratings week.
Damien Smith…well, I’m sure that he’s currently recovering after two weeks of battling it out with Nine’s Mike Dalton to see who could come up with the best puns in their Easter Show reports!
Well that’s your problem. The senior reporters aren’t the ones getting to work at the crack of dawn each day to cover the overnight stories for Sunrise/11:30am.
@eddel senior reporters (like Chris Reason & Robert Ovadia) are often seen during live crosses on Morning bulletin, But as @LukeMovieMan has said not this week though.l suppose it just depends on what roster they are working on the day and if it is a major news story.
Not the first for 7 News Sydney. Does it mean she will be presenting the New at Five today? Does it also mean David Brown will now do Sun-Thurs and Angie Fri & Sat in line with the rest of the presenters?
QUEENSLAND:
Paul Burt returned from holidays and presented the weather Thursday and Friday in place of Tony Auden. Kay is anchoring solo again this weekend.
I agree. The images behind Mel were outstanding and that gentle sideways movement of the camera is very effective (as compared to Sunrise’s rocking the boat). I also liked the background behind Jim. A very polished looking bulletin. Well done 7 Sydney.
You cant watch that bulletin and say that Mel shouldn’t be the main newsreader in Sydney. Set is looking really good too, all they need to do is use the sunrise videowall for weather and for other stuff (I.e finance) and some new gfx and it will look perfect IMO
A proper liveshot would also be nice (Seven can use liveshots of the city on the 6pm news in other markets, but not in Sydney where it’s iconic skyline deserves one? Give me a break…), instead of the fairly average backdrop loop they use right now. Yes, I know that there’s those additional plasmas on the sides of the Sydney/national set, but they would be better off being used for some sort of story-specific graphics as an alternative to OTS’.
Of course, I completely agree that Melissa Doyle should be Sydney’s weeknight newsreader and the switch needed to happen at the start of 2015!
I believe that Jim Wilson used to present Sport on Monday to Friday. I’m pretty sure that Seven have changed the Sports presenter roster in Sydney to Sunday-Thursday and Friday/Saturday to properly match up with those for the News/Weather presenters as well as to properly compete against Nine’s bulletin which has been running the Sunday-Thursday and Friday/Saturday presenter rosters for ages now.
