Hahaha yeah seem they are copying 9now… 2 years later
I recall the feature being available for cricket last summer but then it wasn’t rolled out more widely.
Seven’s top headline tonight is an “exclusive” plug for their newly secured broadcast rights to athletics meets later this year with Gout Gout and crying news on him pulling out of their Commonwealth Games complete with Bruce McAvaney v/o and super.
Spare us. This is a flagship news bulletin.
Can’t believe what I just saw, really. Also curious timing given rival Nine’s recent Aus Open and current Winter Olympics dominance.
It is breaking news that he’s pulled out of the Commonwealth Games. Not top priority but big news.
9 would also do something similar if a big name player pulled out of the Aus Open or Olympics etc
I have a problem with the way it was delivered and presented, from “exclusive” to Bruce sit-down to referencing ‘but don’t worry, Seven have secured broadcast rights to’.
It was a self-congratulatory, self-pity, commercial plug.
Change channels then.
Tonight 7News is starting a week long series Bill Busters.
Tonight’s topic is home mortgage with Kochie providing expert advice.
I don’t see the issue with a) an exclusive being properly labelled as an exclusive or b) a World Athletics President’s Award receipient filing the report.
Additionally, baffled at your self-pity reference, considering Gout Gout and his coach made the decision to pull out of the Commonwealth Games due to scheduling conflicts with the U20 World Championships.
Was the Compare the Market Meerkat there too?
IMO it shouldn’t have been the lead news story. Was it Nine News, Ten News, ABC News, SBS News, Sky News’, etc? And given that was technically national, was it Seven News Sydney and all other bulletins in all markets top story tonight?
Given it was an exclusive, and it would seem in this case it was exclusive in the true sense of the word, then it would not have been on any of the other networks.
Fair enough.
But why did it need to mention Channel Seven and them acquiring new broadcast rights and making it sound like viewer compensation for Gout Gout then?
And also why couldn’t it have been a few stories in?
Because it is breaking news and Seven had an exclusive. I’m sure the other networks would have been all over it if they knew about it and had an interview or footage from it.
what was the lead story then? Surely most 7 viewers would have been interested in the Gout story. And Bruce is one of 7’s most iconic people. If he comes to the newsroom and says he has a big story surely that adds to the decision.
It’s since been picked up by almost every other news outlet in the country, so looks like it was a pretty good scoop.
Was the OTS graphics used in Brisbane tonight new to that bulletin?
I thought the same about Perth’s as well.
