Seven’s interest rates coverage was about for almost 5 minutes
Could they seriously not use Alex Cullen for this?
Is he a seriois neewreader?
Alex’s news bulletin was labelled as 7 News at 1PM today, unlike yesterday.
Monday - there was even a hint of Melbourne showing in the backdrop.
Later today - Syd and Mel. Brisbane got a locat report at 2pm (presume because the Interest Rate story from Alex would be out of date?)
Or Ann Sanders… 7 is flush with presenters in the afternoons at the moment.
It’s probably the only time Seven Melbourne have been positive about this project, usually they find some sort of negative spin about it. Felt like a bit of a lightweight critique from Media Watch to be honest.
In fact, Seven reporters were trawling regional Facebook groups on the day of opening to try and capture some negative opinions. That was probably more notable than this TBH.
Yes I remember seeing things on Twitter with 7news reporter trying to find people being negative about it and pretty much saying they want peoples bad opinions about it.
As I said earlier I think only that 4pm news was a thing paid by the government and it was 2 days before the actual opening too
It is stupid. Alex could easily handle this news.
If anything, Alex is the unnecessary one. With Natarsha presenting an hour bulletin from noon then disappearing not to be seen again. Then Alex comes on at 1pm.
Strangely though yesterday almost as many (on average) watched Alex’s 10 minutes as Natarsha’s one hour.
Because remember he’s a sports presenter
Because most viewers have decided that it’s a 70-minute news block so might as well stayed back and finished it out.
On a sidenote: the current iteration of “The Mission” used by 7NEWS turned 10 years old on February 1st. It originally debuted on February 1st, 2016. How time has flown, I remember disliking it because it sounded fake and the headline base didn’t (and doesn’t) even sound similar to John Williams’ original composition.
What the actual F is that backdrop? It looks like a PowerPoint gradient background.
Cullen wasn’t always part of the sports desk.
He came from regional TV over 20 years ago now, Prime in NSW then moving across to GWN in Western Australia at two stations.
He started sports when he went to ATN Sydney in 2007 for Sunrise, later replacing Matt White as Sydney’s sport presenter for Seven News.
He left sport again, becoming a foundation investigative reporter for Sunday Night.
Then of course moved back into sports again when Nine picked him up for Today.
He also did news and sport from March 2020 - December 2022.
No news at 1pm today… Instead a movie..
That was in the schedule - and note that next week Noon News is only on Tuesday and Wednesday - sport on other days.
Noticed a “Courtesy: 9” super on Seven News tonight, during the Olympic torch relay footage in the Milan story from Robson.
Saw an ad during tonight’s Melbourne news that if you miss the start of the bulletin, you can go to 7plus on selected devices and click the “start over” button.
