Apology to Ms Fatma Mallouk
7NEWS has issued the following apology.
Just silly really.
This must be why they mean by "look live’ - but neither is ![]()
As seen simultaneously in Sydney and Brisbane.
Well if you’ve got a crew and reporter covering one story that day and sticking around for a live cross later that’s not managing your resources well.
7, 9 and US stations all heavily use live cross. So it most be a cost effective way to fill air time. Having editors write cut edit a story also costs money. I think live cross is a reasonably cost effective way to fill news time
Does the 7News Flash title cards still use the old GFX package?
How does the V/O “around the world in 80 seconds”
Don’t usually see Seven News Syd do this but did anyone else watch Fergo and Ange correct and apologise for mis-identifying someone in a report in past bulletins, just before the first break and after the weather preview? Haven’t caught up on this weeks Media Watch so perhaps I’m missing something…
Happened in Melbourne too… was very surprised. Wonder if it was a litigation situation where they had to apologise in air.
And in Adelaide as well.
Nothing on Media Watch either in the past few weeks - sounds like someone stuffed up and the innocent person had a good case.
It must have been a national report broadcast early this month. Both Sydney and Melbourne issued an on air apology tonight.
I would say Media Watch might pick it up next week… but ideally Seven has admitted fault and admitted to the mistake. I would say legally they had to do it.
Same done in Perth.
Anyone know if Brisbane did it then?
Same thing at Midday.

7NEWS has issued the following apology.
Between May 7 and May 11, 2026, 7NEWS published a series of news broadcasts on television and our websites, as well as social media posts, about Kawsar Abbas, also referred to as Kawsar Ahmad.
A photo of Fatma Mallouk was mistakenly used in those publications.
