Seven News Content and Appearance (2015-2020)

I’m not sure about Adelaide & Perth, but I definitely think that such a concept would work well in the East Coast cities
David Brown and Jane Bunn would do Sydney and Melbourne’s plus Brisbane’s weekend bulletin, as we have Tony Auden. Surely a meteorologist could be found for Adelaide and Perth.

With the announcement this morning that Sunrise will be getting a new set and look on Feb 1 and also the fact the whole network has received a new look already, surely Seven News will be getting a new look on Feb 1 too, surely?

I’m hoping the whole Martin place studio gets a massive fit-out for news and sunrise.

I really hope that Seven News will get a new look on February 1 (or soon after) but somehow, I won’t be holding my breath for that.

Really, it’s not as if Seven News can simply be presented “on the road” for a week like a breakfast TV program so who knows what will happen there.

Simple. Green screen presentation from the newsroom or in a corner of the studio like they have done in the past. Anyone remember 2010?

By they can do green screen for Mark like they do for the Early News. Jim is down in Melbourne for the tennis so it’s not like they have to show a set when they cross to him.

But as u say- not holding my breath.

I agree, setting up a green screen in the newsroom would be a simple enough solution for a week or so in between changing sets if Seven News was to have a relaunch.

Realistically though, I wouldn’t be surprised if Seven waits until after Rio (at least) before the news service has a relaunch. Aside from saving the hassle of having to handle the construction of two new sets at Martin Place for the start of 2016, surely there will be a number of people at Seven News heading off to Rio to cover the Olympics? The more I think about it, the possibility of having a news relaunch after the Olympics makes more sense than doing it on February 1 along with Sunrise, even if that means we have to put up with the current and very dreary standard of news presentation for another 7-8 months.

Do we all secretly love Seven News more so than Nine News? We’ve got 147 posts here Vs 63 over on the same page for Nine news.

I mean, I know 90% of the comments here bag out the Seven service but I think it’s certainly the more popular choice of news among visitors of this site.

We bag it because we know how great it could be!
I know I don’t 90% of the time. I watch Rod and Kay in QLD on the weekends, Seven Morning News if the national news isn’t on Nine and that is it. Between the two, Nine, IMO, has better reporters, slightly better presenters (generally) and better set, graphics and consistency.

I’m not sure about other cities, but here in Sydney I personally think that there’s really only one commercial TV news bulletin that adequately covers the market. And I’m sorry, but it isn’t Seven or Ten.

Honestly, I’d like to see Seven News become a competitive force against Nine in Sydney again but Seven News in it’s current form doesn’t deserve to top the ratings.

Back in the 2000s when it was trying out new things and really innovating, Seven News Sydney did deserve to be #1 in the ratings. Many elements we saw in the bulletin back then were groundbreaking for the time and set the standard for what we see on Sydney TV news bulletins now. Really if it wasn’t for Seven News becoming #1 during the Ian Ross era, we probably wouldn’t have the Nine News Sydney that we’ve got now.

Excellent point!

I myself have always preferred Seven over Nine.

Even during the Brian Henderson era (as amazing as he was) I genuinly preferred Ann Sanders and Ross Symmonds.

Even in 2000 up until 2003 I had always thought Seven (even though trailing in the ratings) was pretty innovative and very very fresh in presentation compared to offerings on Nine for its time.

I remember in the year 2000 after school at 4pm at Town Hall and Wynyard stations, Seven News updates would play on the projectors and I always thought their presentation was so modern. Hearing that theme play throughout the station was also very attention grabbing and fast. Loved that theme!

Then when Ian took over it certainly skyrocketed but then he retired and it went no where fast.

I think 2016 is time for Seven to shine again and to dominate the market. Not without a full and thorough relaunch though.

We know.
No, but you do.

I liked Seven News and what it was doing in the mid-to-late 2000s. Since then, every decision they’ve taken has been somewhat of a misfire. They got rid of an excellent look introduced in 2010 for the most hideous graphics package I’ve ever witnessed in 2011, for seemingly no reason.

They also dumped Kay and Rod in Queensland, which is sacrilege. They got rid of Chris Bath for Ferguson, which was also a misfire IMO.

It’s been that way for a long time in terms of posts. I don’t know exactly what to put it down to as it hasn’t been reflected in rating in recent years.

The 2010 package still looks good! better than the current graphics imo, particularly the finance graphics & transitions. I best be seeing a relaunch on Feb 1 … Don’t know how much times I’ve seen relaunch in the 7news thread ha!

MediaSpy has always been known in the industry as the Seven fanboi site… even way back 10 years ago… so not surprised. It’s always had a greater number of users who have been Seven fanatics and that’s the way it’s pretty much stayed. It’s not as pronounced as what it was around 8 or so years ago, but it’s still there.

Well I’m a 9 fan boy.
I used to love 10s service but after all the cutbacks I’ve really lost my appeal in them.

Well I celebrate 10 years of being involved with Media Spy this year, and I was definitely in the minority back then about liking National Nine News (as it was then known) and was often scolded about it haha. However in saying that, I was 14 and didn’t know much back then lol.

But in Seven’s defence 10 years ago, they had the best graphics, the best set designs and were really on the ball. Then they just lost it.

Seven News had the best graphics in 2006?

I conquer…NOT

Seven News’ graphics in 2006 certainly weren’t the best we’ve ever seen, but not really all that bad compared to what Nine was running at the time (logo flying around Sydney as an Opener, really?) let alone what Seven are running with these days.
