Seven News Content and Appearance (2015-2020)

some new gfx
I’m hoping that they have a big plan worked out for this year that involves new graphics being rolled out to coincide with the federal election campaign.

It would also be great to see the 7pm bulletin return for the election later this year. Rather than just doing a repeat of 6pm, give the later bulletin its own identity with some unique graphics and a simple little set using the two plasma walls and some stools.

Have Chris Reason and Mel share hosting duties across the week and then dedicate the first half to political analysis followed by a summary of the national headlines and then weather. It’s nothing that can’t be achieved using existing resources and wouldn’t necessarily need to be more serious than 6pm, just a bit more in-depth.

I would also experiment with a later repeat on the main channel to test the waters from something more permanent. I would also like to win the lottery please, and probably have a better chance of that happening than any of the rest of this!
If anyone knows when the election is , July 2 or ‘later this year’ ! If anything the only time Seven News is likely to roll out new graphics is around the time of the Olympics, possibly coinciding with a On-Air network modification (the logo etc)
I actually liked the idea of the 7pm News. Obviously one of the main problems for the bulletin was that it was placed on a multi-channel instead of the main. I would like a late news bulletin to return to our screens on either Seven, Nine ( almost certain not from TEN for a while!). Not too late and at a consistent time. Whether the networks would like to do it at 9.30, 10.30, programming should work around it, not the other way around.

I used to really enjoy the 7pm bulletin on 7Two. Meant I could catch the headlines I often missed by arriving home late for 6pm.

The 7pm news’s biggest problem IMO was it was a national bulletin that was programmed against a local one from ABC.

Unfortunately (and it really pains me to say it since I’m far from a fan of the current Seven News graphics/branding and certainly want it replaced ASAP), I think that the chances of Seven News rolling out new graphics this year are relatively low. If the management of Seven News wanted to do a full brand refresher, I think we would’ve seen it around the time of Sunrise’s relaunch or the general channel On-Air Presentation relaunch. Instead we only saw the Sydney/national set and the theme music changed on February 1, both of which we’ll probably be stuck with until 2020 or possibly later knowing the track record of such “sacred cows” with the news branding at most networks.

If anything, I actually wouldn’t be too surprised if we’re more likely to see a branding evolution of Nine News before anything similar with Seven News.

Yep, I agree. Then there’s the fact that it aired on 7TWO. Maybe if the 7pm bulletin aired on the main channel (presuming that TT East Coast was still around and that Home & Away moved to 7TWO) it might’ve worked, but generally both it and Nine’s short lived 7pm bulletin on GEM were little more than a rehash of the 6pm news from what I saw. Hardly anything exciting.

Personally, I would prefer Seven (or Nine, maybe Ten although we all know how the latter network is struggling to even keep their only news bulletin at 5pm on the air) to produce a proper late night bulletin to air at/around 9.30pm.

Why has Seven decided to send Brisbane based reporter Max Futcher up to the Whitsundays to cover the shopping centre fire, when they’ve got journalists and staff located just over 100km away in Mackay who could have easily completed the live cross instead? Seems weird to me

They do this all the time. I imagine the often have two reporters on scene side by side reporting the same thing. Could be some significant cost savings made there…

The nighttime skyline is back in Perth tonight, as daylight savings time has ended in the Eastern States.

Still looks like they are sitting on a charter boat… Says nothing Perth to me. Surely its not that hard to just change an image loop? Even a still image would be better than that!

Maybe the could zoom-out the skyline more, similar to way of how Ten Eyewitness News Perth looks:

Yep, I agree. The main feature of Seven Perth’s current backdrop loop (both the “Summer” and “Winter” versions) looks like it could be almost any major capital city in Australia.

Surely they could make a background where you can see more distinctively Perth buildings?

Why not use the background photo they use at the start of the weather just need to be updated to add Betty’s jetty to that photo

That would be the best solution in my opinion.

The most accurate example of that is from the 2010 Feb 8th Relaunch:

Just for fun, I made a tweaked version of the skyline to show more of the skyline’s buildings:

Not sure if this is right as I wasn’t watching the but I live in WA and heard “Sydney is making the switch to Mark Ferguson” after a news update.

Fix the shit content first, then get onto the aesthetics.

Late news updates in Qld last night had the same ending.

A similar promo just aired during MKR in Sydney:
