They do do it on occasion. Perhaps they didn’t deem this situation severe enough to warrant it.
With Bec Maddern, she does realise she’s leaving the network WITH the AFL rights for at least the next 7 years!?
Anyway good luck

Seven stalwart Nick McCallum should be sent over there, at least he isn’t cliched like Chris Reason these days…
And she was doing all the VO for the football pre-game shows as well, so I guess she’s always had an interest in the footy broadcasts.
So? She’s not Bruce McAvaney?
I presumed there would be a three month stipuation where you couldn’t join another network for that Period - obviously not
I think that was the argument around Jessica Rowe going from Ten to Nine if i recall rightly. Her contract was up and she chose to go to Nine, with Ten unsuccessfully trying to get a stand down enforced. If Rebecca had been on a rolling contract with no time limit, it’s likely she would have had a non-compete in there with a stand down.
Would depend. If she wanted to break her contract with 7 then no doubt there would have been time she would have to be on “gardening leave” but it sounds like her contact ran its full course and she was able to make any decision she wanted after that. I don’t think any company can necessarily stop you from doing something after a contract runs from full term?
I think it does depend though. Certain high profile personalities I believe have clauses within the contract that prevent them joining a competitor once the contract has run its course or it is broken.
And she’s been used by 7 to cover AFL how often?
Well, it didn’t take long…
Why am I not surprised that the promo includes an opening line that’s supposed to appeal to viewers in the area long considered to be Channel Seven Sydney heartland? Also, the graphics (or at least the implementation of them) in this promo look shocking IMO!
And yet again, another different version of the 7News logo
Yep. At least they’re using the current (and by that, I mean the version that’s used in the newer general channel On-Air Presentation package) Seven logo, but the “NEWS” text is very poorly aligned!
Really not that bad. Yeah maybe it is a little OTT in some spots and improvements could and should be made but overall at least they are promoting the team. However, I can’t help but notice in the last image how inferior she looks to Mark and Brown- obviously she is shorter but she seems to be pushed back as well. I like the backdrop in the close up of Mel. Now all Seven News Sydney have to do is promote the weekend team (probably not game enough in case there is too much support for Melissa Doyle). And why at the end is the word ‘Seven’ emphasised so much, obvious it is on 7 as the ad isn’t on Nine. Or is it?
I don’t think she looks like she fits the 7 brand at all.
You said it! Seven News Sydney are unlikely to promote the weekend team anytime soon because it would only highlight to viewers that the weekend presenters are superior to those that the network wants people to be watching on weeknights!
The promo department must be thinking at last we have something to promote! So much easier to design a campaign around some new feature of the news service than trying to sell “experience”. Should be interesting to see how this goes; seems to address the previous gender imbalance that some were asking for. Will have to wait to see what the on-screen result is like.
Seems like a typical Seven News Sydney desperate promo.

Also, regarding the Olympics, I assume Seven aren"t just using commentators/crew/producers from Melbourne (which is where 7 Sport is based).
I wonder how it’ll work with the AFL coverage (i.e.) clash?
Seeing as Bruce McAvaney is without question going to be in Rio…
God her presentation is just horrid - no polish at all. Her delivery is clumsy.
Add in the bogan OTT voiceover, and the bullshit about being from Sydney’s west, and I can see why people have been switching off Seven News in droves.
That theme needs to change too.
Adelaide news bulletins have always had them. Nine tried a solo bulletin for a while but backfired in the ratings.
