Seven News Content and Appearance (2015-2020)

Mel McLaughlin’s new sports role

Industry sources tip [Mel] McLaughlin will also take up sports news presenting duties at Sydney’s Seven News night desk for either its weekend or weekday bulletins, roles currently filled by Ryan Phelan and Jim Wilson respectively.

McLaughlin has finished work at Channel Ten and is apparently due to start her new job at Seven within a fortnight, but Seven won’t be drawn on what she will be doing day to day.

What’s the bet that Seven will put the wrong Mel on Sydney’s weeknight news sometime soon?

It appears 7 Adelaide are trying something different for the sport segment of 7 News.

To be honest, I’m not a fan…

The ‘missing’ plasmas during sport were still on set for the wide shot at the opening of the bulletin.

Seven News Adelaide aren’t really known for making great OTS graphics and that new one certainly isn’t an exception!
I am always a fan of OTS in place of a plasma, hate those plasma that are smaller than the presenter. So the close-up looks ok IMO, but the cross back to the news desk looks shocking.

Yep. Jim Wilson was loud and proud welcoming her to the network. That could all change very quickly if she takes his job.

Urgh Ryan and Jim are pros compared with her.

The plasma in sport returned tonight.

You have to wonder why the Adelaide crew just didn’t use the standard OTS, which they use for the main part of the bulletin already, if they wanted to get rid of the plasma.

Something looks different to what appeared on the set relaunch. What is it?

The nighttime skyline is back in Perth tonight, as a result of daylight savings time ending in the Eastern States.

I thought something like this was about to happen when it was announced Seven had signed her and the amount they were paying her leaked.

They have the cartoonish presentation so they may as well turn the bulletin into a complete joke by appointing someone who made a name for themselves in the circumstances she did. Hadn’t heard of her before that controversy earlier this year and now the audience is expected to believe she has vast experience and authority? I’m not a huge Jim Wilson fan but it shits me when people are appointed to positions for all the wrong reasons.

Couldn’t agree more.

Network crawler appeared during the Football telecast, saying “7 News after the conclusion of Port Adel V St Kilda”.

Overtime match, no doubt they’ll have fun coding the programs for the biggest ratings…

Today’s Melbourne bulletin started at 6.13pm and finished at 7.05pm according to the clock on my TV. I think Seven deliberately left the late finish so that viewers will miss the start of 60 Minutes.

“Australia’s Olympic News is 7News”…new promo during Sunday Night in Qld. Featured Bill, Sharyn, Pat Welsh, Shane Webcke, Chris Reason, Alex Hart, at sports venues, all wearing the sports pin on their jackets.
Giaan Rooney? IMO, she should certainly be a Seven Sport member sent to Rio.

The most ridiculous story just aired in Perth about a beaten up roller hockey club.

Many things annoy me at 7 Perth, but one major thing is that they never take advantage of being a double header.

For example, tonight with the developing news of the plane hijacking, the bulletin opened individually. One would think that as a double header both Rick and Sue could open the bulletin together with the top story bouncing off each other in the same camera shot…or even at least with breaking news so it isn’t so seperated and instead more united?
Simple expectations with double headers. Nine News Adelaide, Seven News Adelaide and Nine News Perth also don’t do it. You wonder what is the point then of having two anchors?
