Probably just the font change, it’s barely any different so I don’t see the fuss
New 7news.com.au logo -
This is beyond a joke now
What designs were cast Aside to land with these new 7/7mate/7Flix/7two/7news logos and graphics and fonts and who signed off on this sh*t
It’s embarrassing for the industry
No it’s not. Get some perspective.
I think it’s embarrassing. Seven clearly have no idea about brand design or consistency.
@EuroKick brings a good point. Different people have different tastes. Over the last 20 years, we’ve seen many different looks and themes, reporters and presenters. We haven’t even seen the graphics in action yet, so it’s quite hard to judge from what you can’t see. Though to be honest, you can see a lot looking at the new logo.
Especially when the rebrand reportedly cost $300k. Did Seven spend all the money on the basic graphics package (which again, isn’t completely terrible going by what’s been seen so far) and forgot to spend some on making the multichannels/7Plus/Seven Sport/Seven News logos look half decent?!
That’s true. Although going by the new logo and Seven News’ track record of On-Air Presentation over the last decade (the brand looked better 15 years ago than it does now), I think Media Spy is right to wonder if any new look will just be another step backwards. Sure there’s always the possibility we could be in for a surprise and see an amazing new look Seven News on Monday night or whenever the changeover is actually going to happen, but I suspect that possibility is approximately the same as anyone on this forum winning Lotto: Very slim to none!
I’m certainly of the belief that any new look graphics (even if they’re any good) will only temporarily gloss over far more serious issues with Seven News, such as the ever declining quality of their content and a mass exodus of talent which shows no signs of slowing down - particularly in Sydney and Melbourne where they’re currently #2 and need better content & higher quality presenters/reporters if they’re to seriously challenge Nine News for top spot in our two largest markets.
The stack version doesn’t look too bad! (imo, dont kill me)
Found out the 7NEWS specials have been updated.
No, Im sure they think it looks great. They just didn’t go to a good outside firm, nor have people who understand contemporary design and branding making key decisions at 7
I agree. Not too bad like that. I’ll reserve my full judgement until I see the entire package.
Refined is just a word 7 doesn’t know.
7 News haven’t had any refined looking packages since the very early 2000’s.
The past 3-4 graphic packages have always felt dated upon launch.
Their 2004 package was excellent, that opener was ahead of its time and still looks ok. I also didn’t mind the 2010 look.
After that, it certainly declines!
I personally hope that Seven will return to its roots of polished graphics of 2004-2011 (with white or black replacing blue of course).
Also the news logo would be better off if they used the font of their graphics in their promos instead of that incredibly dated squashed font. Works for sports (just) but fails spectacularly for their multichannels and news.
This was probably the last time Seven News Sydney had a truly great Opener (some would say it was also the last time Seven News Sydney had a truly great presenter, although I still liked Chris Bath)?
I suppose the presentation between 2005-10 was OK (aside from those absolutely horrendous Powerpoint-style graphics tweaks made in 2006), but I haven’t really liked any branding elements Seven News has used since 2011.
Of course I’m hoping that the next era of Seven News branding will be an improvement, but the updated logo and introduction of John Stanton voiceovers (yes that was a great choice for the Ten Eyewitness News “The Team To Watch” Promos 35 years ago, but times have changed) aren’t exactly inspiring me with confidence that they’re really positioning themselves as Australia’s news service for the 2020s.
Probably wrong thread to be discussing this, but the question has to be asked - is there anyone at Seven actually capable of taking over as Sydney’s Sunday-Thursday newsreader?
Michael Usher is alright as a news presenter, IMO Fergo is a better newsreader than him, and I feel he is better suited to The Latest.
Seven would probably have to get someone from Nine or Ten I reckon.
I think Mel Doyle and Michael Usher both have potential, just like Peter Overton did when he was appointed in 2009. Mark Ferguson can move somewhere else, preferrably where less viewers see his presentation style.
Content wise, I want them to drop the sensationalist and fearmongering approach with their coverage. They’ve slowly become the TV News equivalent of clickbait. Go back to just cover the news and nothing more.
