Uh oh. The news presenter doesn’t say good evening when they first appear. SydneyCityTV doesn’t approve.

BTW, can Mitch stop trying so hard to yell the bulletin. He used to be so polished in his presentation but now it’s very unpleasant to watch.

Not a bad wide shot but still looks very disjointed.

Such a massive downgrade from this, even just having the date on the opening shot which looks classy.

He says good evening before reading the first story. I don’t get why he needs to say it when he first appears at the start. No one does it…

Have to agree. They seem to be making way too many changes at the moment for no reason. Consistency always wins in Melbourne.

I reckon they should’ve done a 1 News NZ when they launched their news set and have HD wrap-around wall that surrounds the entire studio. Add in a smaller, angular desk with multiple presentation angles and it would look fantastic.

Oh what could’ve been…

I don’t mind that kind of opener myself (granted, it could be a bit more polished but it’s not bad). Though I am aware some members don’t particularly like the cold opener.

As I said a while back, that date on the desk was dropped after only a few days. The reasoning was that “it was too much work updating it each day” from the director of the bulletin.
Says a lot really.

They need to pan the camera of the backdrop So it includes more of Flinders St station again. Line it up so Pete is blocking the acoustic shed of the Metro tunnel at Fed Square if that’s their main concern… the big looming buildings behind him now is too close and it’s not a nice shot.

Love it! Much prefer it over the old fashioned boring way of opening.

Drop the “starts now” bit and the opener would be alright. Starts now? Yeah, no bloody shit.

I find those opening headlines absolutely tedious, there has to be a way to shorten them. Highlight 2-3 banging stories at the top then into the bulletin ASAP, especially when a lot of those stories felt the same or at least came under the same subject. Gotta be a way to write those way tighter and pacier.

Also, what’s up with the change in camera just after the roll-in to Peter after the headlines?

From memory, it only lasted one day.

Totally agree with this! The backdrop looked so good when it was further away, particularly with the cars and trams going past on Princes Bridge. Now it’s just a lifeless image of buldings.

…they know they could program a macro for that, right?

Assume he’s used to it. Give him a while to adjust to change.

This is a nice opener with smooth graphics. Like how there’s an opening shot but I feel it needs more movement and action. Also the set looks funny now after seeing the new set for a while. I don’t like the date on it.

Really? I like when that’s used, I think it was a creative use of the desk.

What they are doing in Melbourne is called panic. The “leaders” in there are out of ideas. Simply copying whatever 9 does never ends well. They were setting the agenda in a few ways last year - but those gains are now all gone. The way they are using the set looks crap - the new opener looks crap and the “starts now” is trying to sound innovative but falls flat. I’d put it in the same category as the “@” in the 4pm news. You’ve also got a newsreader and other presenters who are filthy that their pay has been reduced by 20%.
