The only thing I can think of is they want to do a Nine and do weather from the video wall rather than the screen where it was done before.
Now that they have shifted the desk it’s just going to look weird with everyone crammed in so that’s my theory.
It appears that the back plasma has been shortened and another one has been inserted.
Jane is also on the other side of the set.
I like the new look.

All that has been done is the desk has been shifted further over so the “old weather” screen is now the sport backdrop. They have changed the graphics on the desk as well. Lighter and more centred.
I just hope they haven’t retained the “underwater sinking” blue transition to sport.

Not a fan of the new angle of the live shot. They have essentially cropped the image to 4:3 ratio and the buildings below Mitch look like they are towering over him
I much prefer the shot with Flinders street in the background, which was more of a wide shot before.

Yes, the background (skyline) looks too zoomed in. Is mitch now sitting on the other side of the desk?

Sort of, they have moved the desk over and reframed it to have the top of the set trimming in frame as well for the OTS

That shot looks strange. You can see the desk cutout where the main presenter is meant to be sitting.

No sport from the set tonight. So we won’t see the new setup in full effect.

The issue with this new angle for the live shot is that you can’t even tell it’s Melbourne now. There’s no landmarks being shown, and ultimately they are now zooming in on the least attractive buildings in the city.

This is Seven though. Typical of them to make unnecessary (sometimes stupid) changes to their on-air presentation which have no significance or improvement to their current presentation and brand.

The throw to weather. Pretty well executed and looks better the angles slide across to reveal the various graphics for the handover.

Sorry, I’m not a fan. It really does look like a pointless change.
So they have literally moved Peter to where sport was, sport is now done where the weather use to be and Jane has now taken Peters old spot.

I don’t really like it. The desk now looks as though it’s just been plonked there. I don’t like the zoomed in backdrop either, what they had was great and it had life with the trams and cars moving over Princes Bridge.
