Interesting change. Weather looks better from that angle but the wide shot of Peter with a story backdrop looks weird - the desk’s shape doesn’t really work with its new position.
The cross to sport, and the sport presentation looked quite good on the 4pm news.
Vertical perspective distortion in the backdrop looks awful and needs to be straightened up. News backdrop 101 stuff they worked out in the 70s.
Because the desk is so unnecessarily big, it feels like she’s more cramped on the LHS even though the video wall is bigger than the other screen - and from the caps above it makes the set look smaller.
Time to be original Seven, not to ape your opposition. Dumb move
WA section of website now featuring the weekend news team. Must be noted, that the weekend Perth team has never really featured in any form of promotion since Yvette Mooney was in the chair.
They attempted to do a different background and handover for the preview tonight, seems it failed as the wipe that happened for James half was a vertical one that looked like it was missing an overlay,
They appear to have done this so there is a generic backdrop when they cut back to Mitch, as last night the “Janes Weather” was behind him when she threw back, only for it to flick to the live cam.
Sorry for the small caps
They also appear to have toned down the desk and reverted it back to a dark graphic too
I’m sure they can fit all of them together on their new desk.
Not liking the set change. It looks too disjointed. The desk looks horrible in the new position. Hopefully they revert back sooner rather than later
An improvement on last night, but not great.
The handover to sport looks atrocious.
I’ve never been a fan of the Melbourne set - really poorly designed with awkward shapes/angles and very low quality displays. They have the luxury of such a great studio space but squander it.
The set was quite nice before. I agree with the other comments. It’s very awkward now. Who cares if Jane couldn’t present from a weather wall!
One of the problems I have with Melbourne’s set is the full-shot of Peter Mitchell needs to be either zoomed in or lifted, so his hands are not showing. Him playing with his pen absolutely annoys me (first world problems I know).
Having watched tonight and last night, I’ve decided that I don’t like the shift in the desk, and Mitchell sitting on one side of the desk. I also don’t like the weather’s position, and I believe it needs to be changed back.
It’s not even a true set, just two screens, some lights and a weirdly shaped desk. Better than Perth but the bar is already fairly low.
Could’ve made it a multipurpose space incorporating the newsroom and others but obviously those who designed it never considers these elements.
lol isn’t that just every set in Australia when you think about it…
It only cost 800k
800K pissed up the wall TBH.
They could’ve done so much better in that space for less. Instead they’ve done the bare basics whilst wasting unnecessary money which could be used for other parts of the news or even the network.
