Agreed. Might be a bit of work, but ditch the boring background and OTS graphics, and go with the full-screen ones instead.

3AW feature on 7 News’ theme. Interesting listen. No mention about the infamous 2014 theme change. The Mission was reinstated by the end of that week.

I like that the news theme is more orchestral sounding, although I have no doubt this new one is electronically created, but there isn’t enough variation in the sting. They need to harken back to the original and copy those subtle variations in the main notes. This one is a little too monotonous. I agree that it’s more authoritative than the last variation.

If you ask me, this new Seven News theme doesn’t really sound like a proper news theme even with the signature from The Mission. Was this new theme even tested out properly before it went to air to see how it would sound with a presenter reading the headlines and swooshes in the background? Probably not.

As much as it did sound rather tired and dated to my ears, I do think that Seven need to switch back to the old version used prior to Monday night. Either that, or produce a new version that actually sounds like a proper news theme rather than something from a movie battle scene!

Not a fan of the new-look 7 News theme after 3 nights. I liked the fast paced 1999-2004 music. Bring back the 2004-2016 look.

The swooshes don’t work for me at all and they need to be replaced with chimes (might try mocking something up) but I do think the theme can work if they build a new opener around it.

New graphics, a proper opening graphic/titlecard before the headlines and then something similar to the SLN opener with the voiceover split into two (ie “at six o’clock, this is Seven News -sting- with Mark Ferguson”). I hate, hate, hate the way they talk over the sting. You might as well get rid of the music altogether if you’re not going to let it be heard.

I loved the 1999 to 2004 theme the most. It was my favorite theme of all news’ and all time. Until the relaunch on Monday 1st February. The new Seven News theme is seriously the change Seven News dependently needed (graphics need to change too however)

The current and new Seven News theme is an amazing rendition of the Mission. It’s very classical, very traditional yet modern and authoritative and the best thing about it is that it’s unique to Seven. Not a rip off from NBC.

I’m confident Seven News is slowly but surely on the way up under it’s new management and direction.

I heard a part of the new version of the The Mission on the late news update and it was more closer to the NBC The Mission than the normal intro part, so I think its based off the latest NBC Mission version but remixed and added some stuff to it with actually some it sounding completely different . I think its closer to the original than what the 2004-2016 version was but the only thing I don’t like with the latest is it completely spins off into something that doesn’t even remotely sound like The MIssion (or they just mixed the failed 2014 theme into it) before it returns back to The Mission.

The short lived 2014 theme lasted for only five days before backlash forced 7 to reinstate the 2004-16 Mission theme. Fancying a mock with the 1999-04 Mission theme which was my favourite of the three Mission remixes

Totally understand your #1 rating for the 1999 to 2004 Mission but to say the 2004 to 2016 Mission is better than today’s theme? Not even close. The 2004 -2016 Mission was a butchers version. That theme ripped the absolute heart and soul for what the mission actually stands for. It brought a bit of shame to John Williams hard work in my opinion.

Today’s theme has restored some substance and emotion to Seven’s presentation. The current theme is amazing. Thank goodness the 2004 -2016 theme has been ripped and thrown out!

I do rekon if Seven approached Steve Leibo or Ray (provided they accepted) they’d be in a better position today, but Fergo really is nice guy and a good presenter and now that he’s in I’d like him to work out. Sydney’s numbers for Seven are much much better and yes that can be attributed to The Chase but people are somewhat checking Fergo and Seven out. Their coverage is seriously as good as Nine’s. They’re almost identical. Hopefully Sydney makes the switch!
