Well, doesn’t 9News say it’s “always on”… not it’s not…even though it seems that way with all the bulletins they have during weekdays

Yes I do. There’s a Melbourne version also. Was unable to upload over the weekend - will try again tonight. It’s a “slideshow” kinda promo with the clips wiping open like doors yes?

Can’t believe I saw Tony Jones (Nine News) on Seven News

Touching and beautiful speech though.

UPDATE:
Ch 7 ended Lou Richards State Funeral telecast at 12:45pm [AEST] with Peter Mitchell and Tim Watson advising 4pm and 6pm News.

Another encore of Lou Richards Tribute with Bruce McAvaney is now airing (instead of the scheduled 12.01pm midday movie “Unanswered Prayers” - EPG now out of whack).

I think the Opening Headlines on Seven News Sydney might be presented live now, because the last time I saw the bulletin the Headline Graphics were in native HD (rather than upconverted SD for the pre-records) for both the Opener & the Recap.

I’m not sure about the Early News because I’m very rarely awake and watching TV at that time of day, but I believe both the Morning & Afternoon bulletins have their Openers presented live.

The font on some of the pictures used behind Mark in Sydney as he is presenting certain stories have changed this week to appearing in an animation opening from the centre as he is starting to present the story and a line is now used to separate the two lines of words used over the top of the pictures. It also appears as though in some cases these pictures are not just static images but show moving images. It certainly does look a lot better than the font they used to use with the top line emphasised in a box!

A few caps of the new permanent style (used to be used only for major stories) of backdrop OTS in Sydney:

And I can confirm Fergo had his eyes closed for 90% of the bulletin :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::joy:

I hate the backdrops for individual stories. I particularly hate ch9’s which look tacky and ACA like with different fonts. Just stick with a live shot background, looks classy and professional.

Melbourne now using the Sydney style OTS with the text separated by a line. Also animated as well.

Seven News Brisbane has reacted to Nine News’s “save money” reports last week with its own version tonight. Nine News has been running heavily promoted segments that have the common theme of saving (or winning) money in some way. Many look like advetorials but the impact has been noticeable in the ratings with Nine News well ahead of Seven in a usually close race. Here are some caps from Seven “News” tonight on how to save money on white goods.

Promos were run during the bulletin

Don’t get me wrong, I’m an Adelaide resident and Seven news it is for me all the way. However, I do feel there is a growing number of members here that want Nine to take back Adelaide and Perth. Is Seven really that bad these days, or has Nine finally caught up after years of rock bottom with WIN?

IMO, neither. I would like to see Nine in Adelaide and Perth at least be competitive with Seven instead of being easily defeated. In saying that, Seven News Adelaide and Perth deserve to be number 1 (despite the poor set choice of the latter) for content, pace, competency and commitment.

Nine is trying harder then ever and investing more $$$ then ever before into Adelaide & Perth newsrooms compared to either of the stations previous owners, so I feel that’s definitely a factor when it comes to people wanting to see Nine do well with their (vast) improvements.

10 years ago I would have been laughed off the forum if I even insinuated that Nine in Adelaide or Perth would ever get identical sets to the east coast stations (even if Nine owned them), or their own local afternoon bulletins and in Perth’s case, local news inserts during Today.

Seven would never have made any improvements / added additional news content in Adelaide and Perth if it wasn’t for Nine trying to be competitive.

I beg to differ. Speaking for Adelaide at least…

Content: for me, Nine provides the superior content, if only for their longer bulletin at 6pm. Across the day, Nine also have 2 hours of local news, compared to Seven’s 30 minutes. Similar with pace, Seven wins if you want a 15 minute run down of the headlines which feels far more rushed than Nine, but Nine wins for me, able to go more in depth and show a wider range of stories.

Competency: judging from my own viewing (obviously not seeing every minute of every bulletin) but there have been far more bloopers for Seven in the recent weeks here, including a few publicised on here, even with Nine getting the new set.

Commitment: (whatever the definition of this is) but again, I’d give this to Nine, with the only discernible difference between the services a local afternoon news. If we’re talking about ‘commitment to the city’ Nine also performs favourably with their street side studio and events like the easter appeal.

Obviously it’s all subjective. Neither channel ‘deserve’ to be number one here, but like Squee said, I think Seven have become complacent, however with the benefit of being ingrained as the default. Nobody knows Adelaide like Seven, but Nine is trying really hard to know us too.
