Seven News Content and Appearance (2015-2020)

In Melbourne we had News Flash with Chris Reason at about 3.30pm who crossed to Sharyn and Katrina who were still awaiting verdict, at 4pm we went to Afternoon News.

Never heard of this case before, not sure why we are getting live coverage here in Sydney/NSW. We don’t get coverage like this for big cases here, so why am I getting it for a case in QLD I’ve never heard of. 7 has ended, 9 continuing.

Can I also reinterate my hated for the big globe national backdrop!

Really? It’s been in the headlines for two years. I’m in NSW and there has been plenty of interest from the people around me in the verdict, many expressing an opinion on his guilt or innocence based on what they’ve been exposed to in the media. The case is getting wide coverage in New Zealand, the victim’s homeland, and I’ve seen interest via social media from people in the US. I’d say the link to Tinder would be enough to garner attention from many.

To be honest, today is the first I’ve heard of it.
I really do not think it requires live coverage.

I think the Gable Tostee case has only really started to receive prominent mentions on Sydney/national bulletins in recent days, at least from what I’ve seen.

I think it’s certainly gained more interest nationally in the past few months. Either way I’m sure 7 and 9 will publicise it as much as possible before Sunday Night or 60 Mins scores the exclusive interview!

Seven Brisbane started running these promos fairly soon after the verdict - how many firsts can you fit in one promo… If Seven was first, not sure what was being shown on Nine.

Work gets it for stories from 7

I’m all for promoting your news when it is genuine but these clowns are forever claiming first on things that simply aren’t true. 9 was on air while the verdict went down.

I live in NSW and have followed the case since day 1. It’s no different to the coverage of the Stephanie Scott and Jill Meagher case being covered in other states. The attraction, for want of a better word, with Tostee’s case was the high probability of him being found not guilty when he was such a dodgy character.

I stand by my view that in NSW, we did not need live coverage of the verdict. We didn’t get that for Stephanie Scott, Jamie Gao and other NSW murder cases. Just a report in the news at 6 would suffice.

No one needs it. It’s just the world we live in. Media makes a big deal out of anything inconsequential like this.

The radio promos were saying 7 was ā€œfirst to airā€ with the verdict

When two networks show the same event live and one of them claims they were first to show it, is beyond ridiculous.

Because at the end of the day the viewers don’t care … it’s just about network egos.

Did anyone realise that on Seven News in Sydney tonight there was a different voiceover for Michael Usher compared to Mark Ferguson, Chris Reason etc (which sounds terrible btw)?

Yep, for whatever reason they have been using a national voiceover for Mush rather than a local one.

The voiceovers have been wildly inconsistent in recent months with various people filling in.

On a different note, how much better does the desk look with white across the front (image from Angie’s twitter, though they are still using the usual blue on air from what I’ve seen):
