Seven News Content and Appearance (2015-2020)

Adelaide & Perth don’t need choppers, hardly ever used & no news happens in those towns.

Whereas they’re used frequently/daily across Melbourne & Sydney.

Lol whut

Just because Ten doesn’t do proper local news doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

7 News Brisbane promos for upcoming news stories as shown during the ad break at about the 30 minute mark. Seems like an attempt to keep the audience past the 1/2 way point and stop channel changers - what are they switching to? The Project, Nine News, Neighbours or is just that 30 minutes of news enough?

@LukeMovieMan very funny.

A London, LA, Tokyo, New York resident would say the same thing about Melbourne

perspective.

Not to mention most Sydneysiders :sunglasses:

That isn’t really true, the Seven News Perth helicopter is used multiple times during reports as well as during exclusive coverage and serious events such as the Yarloop bushfires that destroyed the area, the landing of the Antonov aircraft in Perth Earlier this year, and that Russian hot air balloon flyer’s journey from take off to decent somewhere in WA. It was even used to film the entirety of this year’s Australia Day Kings Park fireworks for people to watch when they get home as Seven Perth is a sponsor. Plenty happens in Perth. Period.

The traffic in Sydney and Melbourne is so bad you just about need a helicopter :helicopter: to get anywhere in a reasonable period of time

@eddel People in London, LA, Paris, Tokyo and New York would say the same of Sydney

It’s all relative.

Not to mention that Channel Ten’s own chopper made news itself after it crashed in Perth. Who said nothing happens out West!?

Yes it has been. Nine started this Monday last week, as they did the FIRST ON SCENE Etc transitions. Within a week their good friends have copied.

Seven News in Brisbane are now running promos for upcoming news stories in the ad breaks in the middle of the news - “before Tony’s weather”. Does this feature anywhere else?
Which Nine News Brisbane does during the 6.15pm break promoting the story usually promoted the day before saying, “that story later in the bulletin.” for a few weeks now.

Exactly.

New transitions for 7news Brisbane.

They look fucking awful & unessecary.

Best on? C’mon 7, sounds terrible.

I use to like the Seven News opening titlecards, where they’d transition, fly over the city skyline quickly, and back to graphic (“this is Seven News, with …”). Then pan over the studio. 2004-2011?

I think it’s quite reasonable to say that plenty of news happens in/around all five of our major capital cities that a helicopter is often needed for TV news coverage. And obviously Seven and Nine still think that helicopters are essential newsgathering tools, even though they’re now going into a chopper sharing agreement.

Drones may be cheaper, but they’re not equally as good as a helicopter when you’re trying to do bushfire/flood coverage.

I think it’s fair to say that while they have a smaller population than London, LA, Paris, Tokyo, New York, etc, both Sydney and Melbourne (even as a native Sydneysider I’ll happily admit that with only a slightly smaller population, Melbourne can also be classed as a global city) could be classed as “global cities” to some extent. But that’s a debate for another topic.

I wonder if Nine have recently filed a trademark application for the term “First on…”? Because I can’t think of any other logical reason why Seven News would use “Best on…” as a tagline.

No they’re still using first on 7… Just pointless transitions that’s not needed.

And it got worse lol…

Oh lord. Hopefully these transitions don’t make it to Sydney, where I would argue that Seven News isn’t really “Best on” anything!

Although I certainly wouldn’t put it past Seven to do something reactionary to their On-Air Presentation as a response to the refresh that Nine News is supposed to be getting sometime soon.

Isn’t it the other way around though - the supposed Nine News refresh would be in response to the changes at Seven News.
