I noticed that too, but I think it may be just experimentation. They recently changed Rick Ardon’s voice-over back to the previous one before the Feb 1 refresh. The voice-over sounded slower paced with the presenters names said slower to suit the current theme. Regarding the set, they still show the desk during the Sports hangover.
You think they’ll be calling the chopper to every news story they’ve heard about when they have to tell each other what and why they’re going to it?
Ok!
Compete with Nine? In Perth? Haha, very funny! ![]()
I daresay that Seven News Perth are just doing what Seven News Sydney did for much of the 2011-16 presentation era by primarily using the tighter camera angles most of the time. This among many other elements of the Seven Perth-style of news/current affairs presentation has been tried and failed spectacularly on the East Coast before, but it works over in the West primarily because of the strong connection that Perth viewers have with Channel Seven.
Knowing Seven Perth’s history of keeping outdated news sets in use well after their East Coast and Adelaide equivalents have moved onto newer designs, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they actually keep the current virtual set (with old style background graphics and all) until at least 2020. Barring the very slim possibility of Seven News/The West having a major scandal which really gets viewers offside, I honestly can’t see them losing their current position as “Perth’s #1 news source” anytime soon!
Nine News Perth will probably launch an absolute saturation of marketing the day that Sue announces her retirement. It could happen next year or they might be waiting a decade but IMO that will be the disruption that Nine can exploit (assuming that they are ready for it).
The wide shot is still seen on TT so i don’t think so.
Sad to see the Ch 7 & Ch 9 choppers going…
A national shared contract in all five main cities now, with each of the five choppers re-painted grey with a blue line.
Sad end of an era
Melbourne & Brisbane’s “AS350B2 Squirrel” off to Seven Adelaide & Seven Perth (they finally get a chopper).
It also sees the regular pilots (sometimes heard on radio stations during breaking news) lose their jobs.
Why not put both 9 News and 7 News branding down each side of the chopper.
One brand on each side.
Seven Adelaide & Perth have had there own choppers for many years.
VH-TVG at it’s new Jandakot home since the move to Osborne Park
I can’t recall Seven Adelaide using one over the last decade, but I know Nine had a black one a few years back.
I would pay big money to fly in a chopper with Mark Ferguson’s face swankily plastered on the side.
There are pictures of the Adelaide chopper about 20 posts upthread.
Yeah I saw just before you posted your comment lol

This is/was the Adelaide helicopter, but Seven hasn’t owned it since at least late last year and stopped using it last month it seems.

I’m sure the residents of Sydney inflicted with having to look at Mark’s face would match your offer to ground the chopper.
If that happens I would then have to double that offer of pay and tell the pilot,
‘‘No sir you are not to ground this chopper. Sydney needs to see this face and realise that Fergo is THE (gorgeous) face of Sydney news…so please…keep flying’’
7 Brisbane’s ‘integral’ part of the police case were to key drivers for QLDPOL to get their own helicopters - finally.
9 news starting to win more regularly in Briabane again. The Chase not performing as well either compared to Hot Seat (which we know includes the 5.30 GC news)
it’s in the air over the city every 2nd day, and they always take it for school visits.
Seven News in Brisbane are now running promos for upcoming news stories in the ad breaks in the middle of the news - “before Tony’s weather”. Does this feature anywhere else?
