Discussion of Seven Network and 7Plus programs for 2026.
Seven’s Upfronts are being held this afternoon Wednesday 22 October, 2025
It will be interesting to see if Seven will adjust its “first on 7plus” approach of streaming first-run shows before the TV broadcast. To be fair, most of its overseas dramas have been flops (Suits: LA and Grosse Point Garden Society were both axed after one season).
The AFL and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games will be the network’s key selling points to advertisers for 2026. We should also expect an outcome on Seven’s renewal of NFL broadcast rights.
Why does every FTA broadcaster do this?
(Case in point: Nine just last week.)
Look forward to Seven’s list of on-air personnel for these.
Live action starts at 5.30pm and goes through 7.30am AEDT each day of the event. Hopefully we do duel-channel approach this time.

Stand by for a large data dump. Please be patient while all loads.
Seven announced a few new formats this afternoon including the Mick Molloy show (title TBA), Caught In The Middle and the return of SAS with a Australia v England version.
Other new content that has previously been announced included My Reno Rules, Once In A Lifetime and a reboot of First Dates Australia.
There’s also a couple of music based documentaries Tina Arena: Unravel Me and The Mental As Anything Story.
Most of Seven’s 2025 reality shows are back though Dancing With The Stars is noticeably absent.
No surprise that sport – AFL, cricket and horse racing - and news feature prominently.
No word on any changes to daytime schedule with The Case coming back but Winning Arvo not mentioned.
Of the lifestyle programs now on air, The House of Wellness and Healthy Wealthy and Wise are not listed to return. South Aussie with Cosi listed as returning but not Weekender or Sydney Weekender or Melbourne Weekender.
Home and Away is the only Australian drama mentioned with RFDS currently mid season.
Unlike Nine’ Upfronts, Seven has outlined some plans for its multichannels seeming to value their contribution to the network ratings shares each day.
And still not known as of this moment. Or for that matter, what roles Alex Cullen will have.
The Chase is back for a new season, meaning 7 has conceded the 5pm slot to 9.
No specific mention of the 9-1-1 Nashville spinoff
Helium Pictures also posted about the documentary on Instagram.
Tina is currently touring across France and Belgium this month, so some footage from her concerts could be included in the documentary.
Because that’s gone to Disney+.
9-1-1 is also on Disney+ but 7 has first run rights. So I thought 7 could still air 9-1-1 Nashville but after Disney+ since they have first run rights especially since 7 has aired all 9-1-1 & 9-1-1 Lone Star before
And 6pm in that case. In fact number 1 position in Brisbane.
Not many new shows on Seven next year. Lacklustre line up really.
Most of 7’s shows have done well this season. Stranded Flopped as everyone predicted and that’s axed. DWTS might also be axed and the replacements seems to be the new quiz show & Reno show. There is nothing more for them to replace really.
They have Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday post reality shows covered by some good U.S. tv shows (Rookie, 9-1-1 etc) and March to October Wednesday is Front Bar with Thursday & Friday being AFL.
Not a bad line-up, a few interesting things, namely light entertainment. But similarly with Nine, an over-reliance on news, sport and reality and rather safe/numerous returns, including some long-running.
Seven seem more reliant on US studio output too, including 7Plus, which has become a heavy feature, but to their credit seems to be doing quite well.
Comm Games the biggest one, will be interesting if it pulls Manchester, Glasgow and Gold Coast numbers or Delhi and Birmingham figures.
They’d be best to avoid it
it’s really bad!
Following Nine’s upfront last Wednesday, Trinity P3 global media lead Stephen Wright has also written his views on Seven’s upfront for Mumbrella. This is some of what he said:
Yesterday Seven chose to zig where others are zagging, with an upfront focusing almost exclusively on content.
The Seven Network, like Nine, focused the story for marketers and agencies yesterday on its core strength — an emotional connection, enabled by great content, that delivers real performance for brands.
This was an upfront that started hesitantly and grew in strength and confidence throughout the hour. You almost got the sense that the network started to believe in itself as it was reminded of what it does.
It was only a couple of years ago TV upfronts were very much a battle between Seven. Nine and Ten, but the landscape has changed rapidly. Seven’s reels and narrative last night, perhaps for the first time, really appear to acknowledge that while Nine and Ten might be rivals, they are not the enemy.
The fierce competition which has long defined the battle, particularly between Seven and Nine, appears to mellowed considerably. If the two can continue to align and chant a mantra of growth, partnership and performance, then marketers will take notice.
AdNews has photos from the upfronts. Seven’s personalities who appeared at the event included Nat and Shirvo from Sunrise, Johanna Griggs, Larry Emdur, Kylie Gillies, Dr Chris Brown, Sonia Kruger, Emily Weir, Kane Cornes, Hamish McLachlan, Michael Usher, Mel McLaughlin, Ricky Ponting and Sally Pearson.
Here is a few more tidbits:
The Hunters, Stags, The Crow Girl and Malpractice will not proceed with new seasons or have not been licensed for further seasons.
The Crow Girl was recently renewed for a second season, so it could appear on a streaming platform in Australia.
