Seven HD

Apologies if wrong thread.

Caller to 3AW Breakfast with Ross & John this morning (‘radio solutions’ segment):

“Yes boys, I’d like to know where 7Two has gone on Foxtel”

Viewers are noticing…

Sorry, what I meant was - Seven Network broadcasts both 7HD (Adelaide, Melbourne) and 7mateHD (Brisbane, Queensland, Perth, Sydney)

For its HDchannel. - prime runs with 7mateHD, correct?

Why not run with 7HD as its HD channel and have 7mate in SD?

(Same as Adelaide and Melbourne)

Becasue what 7 Melbourne and Adelaide do is run 7HD with MPEG4 to fit in the extra channel. This seems to be what Prime are not geared up to do - their 7Mate HD is MPEG2.

The post was related to 7Prime.

As I explained above, the reason why Prime7 still has 7mate in MPEG2 HD is because unlike Seven in the metro areas, Prime7 has not yet switched their HD channel to MPEG4 and launch a SD version of 7mate (and that won’t be happening at least until playout moves to MediaHub).

To switch the HD channel from 7mate to Prime7 would probably mean that viewers will either miss out on 7mate or need HD-capable equipment to receive the main channel, hence why they’re maintaining the status quo for now.

I still haven’t seen a change here in regional Qld for the main channel. Looking at the Yourtv guide site, it appears we will get the opening ceremony on 7Mate with the main channel in SD. Wonder what happens to the programming that is usually on 7Mate then.

Wonder when regional Qld will see a HD broadcast of the main channel…after the footy season perhaps…

Prime7 is still showing normal 7mate programs for Saturday morning, so no HD for the Opening Ceremony.

Doesn’t show that as far as I can see - normal 7Mate programming on 6 August at 9am in regional Queensland shown on that site.

Another issue with 7mate (MPEG2 HD) on Prime7 is that they don’t carry local ads. They run just 3 ad feeds only as it is now… Southern NSW, Northern NSW and Victoria.

Going to Mediahub sounds like that may fix the issue of not being able to do a HD feed of Prime7 (or 7mate) in MPEG4 HD with local ad feeds for each of the 17 or so sub regions they have.

Yep I read that wrong

So in that case the Olympics will be in SD on the main channel ? as well as in HD on the multichannel?

No.
As TV.Cynic’s post very clearly says, 7mate is showing normal programming in QLD during the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony will be on 7 ONLY.
Which will be simulcast in HD in the 5 city markets, and quite likely also in QLD (as a 7HD Olympics ad has been screening here)

I’ll give this a go, and see if it works:

Looks like there is absolutely 100% no chance now that 7HD will start in time for the Olympics in Regional Queensland.

Now, if things go according to the usual pattern, 7HD should start up any minute now

Are Sydney & Brisbane getting the main channel (7) on LCN 70 yet)

(i.e.) For the Olympics?

The switch will be made at 12.04am.

Can somebody record it?

(Just kidding, by the way!)

I’m looking forward to seeing some of the NON-OLYMPICS programming on 7HD Sydney over the next 2 weeks eg. how Seven News, The Chase etc look.

They flicked the switch! Sydney is out of the dark ages for a couple of weeks.

Seven Brisbane has switched the HD feed from 7Mate to 7 mid program. The 7Mate program went to ad break, and came back in the middle of a different program on Seven - there were different adverts shown to make the timing match.

Unfortunately 7 QLD did not change, so no HD simulcast there.

A couple of caps from 7HD Sydney, for what they’re worth:

A pity that it’s only a temporary switch for the Olympics but I guess we should enjoy it while it lasts.

Damn!
No change in Townsville.

The only thing that’s different is 7Two and 7Mate do not have the location listed to the left like normal.

No changeover to 7HD which is really disappointing, considering we’re an O&O Seven station!

Also odd considering they’ve been promoting tuning into the Olympics on 7HD
