The ‘HD’ addition seen is for the whole of channel. It does not denote native HD content, no different to Ten HD or Nine HD
Ugh. The footy is gonna look shit for the next few weeks on 7mate with only SD available.

Currently the LCN name of the channel is “7HD (city)” in all metro markets yet for Sydney, Brisbane and Perth it is (mostly) 7mateHD content wise. That is confusing.
Regarding the “HD” watermark on Ch 7 simulcasts (of Fox Footy outside Melbourne), even though it’s technically not HD.
Isn’t it also used to identity the station?
While I can understand that argument, the networks clearly thought that wasn’t an issue when they decided to have breakaway scheduling on the HD channels between 2007 and 2009/2010 compared. Yes, part of that was to get around the multichannel restrictions in place at that time but viewer confusion didn’t stop them. Not forgetting (as you mentioned earlier), SBS showed SBS 2 on their HD channel during the 2013/14 A-League season so the matches could be seen in HD.
I don’t think viewer confusion would be an issue if it was clear in EPGs/TV guides that it would happen and maybe even promoted somewhat. Indeed, they could even turn it into a positive through a campaign something along the lines of “All your favourite Seven shows are now available in HD along with the AFL during the weekend”
Any confusion that arose with the breakaway HD programming in the past was outweighed by the networks being able to offer an extra stream of programming so potentially increasing viewers. Now, there is no extra program stream and even a 5% reduction in viewers can make a big difference. You just have to look at some recent reactions to the affiliation changes to see that some people just don’t understand these things, no matter how many time they are explained.
Olympics ad just aired in Regional QLD advertising all the channels the olympics is airing on, that included 7HD.
So it looks like we will have 7HD in Regional QLD if that’s anything to go by.
TV guide for Saturday for the main channel in Perth hasn’t updated to 7HD yet
Fascist admin, thankyou very much.
Well that’s strange on my tv epg it is showing 7hd programming same as 7
What happens if there is an AFL match on during the Olympics ( I don’t even watch AFL) or are there none on during the Olympics that the main channel would switch back to SD ?
I believe @TV.Cynic mentioned somewhere that Afternoon AFL games will be shown on the main channel during the olympics?
So I take it we’ll have to switch to 7Mate during those times? (Because isn’t 7Two being used for other things incl Paralympics)
Sorry team I’m a little out of the loop (or just loopy, one or another) with this thread - any news on Prime7 and HD?
Cheers
It says that Prime’s existing facilities have been stretched by technological changes in multiple markets including unable to add 7 Flix or an HD channel and that they are going to play via MediaHub before the end of the year .
Which I assume means that they will then be able to have it working .
Southern Cross and Win here in Qld at least seem to have gotten things done quickly . Prime seems to be left behind it seems like.
Don’t Prime7 stations carry 7mate HD?
Why can’t they just flip that to 7HD?
Because you would be risking viewer complaints that a multichannel has gone missing?
As far as I know, Prime7 currently only broadcasts the main channel (SD), 7TWO and 7mate (in it’s original MPEG2 HD format) + iShopTV. Presumably, a MPEG4 HD channel and 7Flix via Prime7 won’t be added until the move to MediaHub playout because of the aforementioned technical limitations at their current Canberra playout facilities.
thanks guys, missed that one.
The same reasons we didn’t see 7mate, 9Gem and One “just flip” to 7HD, 9HD and Ten HD?
