Thanks for clearing that up, I saw a article last week saying Bruce will be stuck in Adelaide when the AFL returns & I just naturally thought he had been in Adelaide the whole time.
The first group of players taking part in Big Freeze 6 was revealed yesterday.
According to advance schedule posted by TVCynic yesterday, Seven will show 30-minutes of pre-match on main channel in Victoria and Tasmania at 7pm, with Home and Away on 7TWO.
EPG currently says “first bounce 7:25pm AEST”
Seven’s programmers haven’t read the fixture properly. The AFL website says first bounce at 7.40pm AEST.

Go to the Footy on Seven as AFL and The Front Bar return
Four blockbusters LIVE & FREE nationally every week
Football will make a blazing return on Seven with round two of the AFL kicking off with four marquee match-ups LIVE and FREE on the Home of Footy, while Australia’s favourite footy show The Front Bar returns this Thursday night.
Next Monday, June 8, all the teeth-chattering, bone-chilling fun of the Big Freeze will again brighten up the Queen’s Birthday public holiday, with stars from all 18 clubs set to take an icy plunge in the fight against the MND ‘Beast’. Mick Molloy and Daisy Pearce will host Seven’s special broadcast of Big Freeze 6, while FightMND icon Neale Daniher will also be part of the show.
Competition heavyweights Richmond and Collingwood will relaunch the 2020 season on Thursday, June 11, kick-starting a massive weekend on Seven that showcases some of the game’s biggest rivalries, including Geelong v Hawthorn, Port Adelaide v Adelaide, and Sydney Swans v Essendon.
Over the upcoming four rounds, Seven will broadcast four games a week nationally, across the prime-time fixtures of Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
Although fans can’t watch from the stands at the moment, Seven is introducing some exciting innovations to the coverage to take viewers as close as possible to the on-field action.
As launched on 7NEWS last month, crowd audio effects will be incorporated into the broadcast from round two, while Seven is also trialing world-first virtual technology and working to integrate fans at home into the broadcast.
The #WeAreWatching campaign, introduced so successfully in round one, will continue with fans encouraged to send in images of themselves at home, going to the footy on Seven.
Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin commented:
“The game will always be at the heart of our AFL coverage. But we’ve spent the past few weeks exploring ways we can enhance the viewer experience from both an audio and visual perspective. The innovations we’re introducing are exciting but will always be kept firmly in the background.”
Despite the existing state border restrictions, football commentary’s No.1 duo Bruce McAvaney and Brian Taylor will lead Seven’s coverage of the Collingwood-Richmond grudge match next Thursday night.
Over the next four rounds, Seven’s commentary team will again include fan favourite callers James Brayshaw, Hamish McLachlan and Luke Darcy, while expert commentary will be provided by Luke Hodge, Daisy Pearce, Wayne Carey, Jobe Watson, Leigh Matthews, Matthew Richardson, Tim Watson, Cameron Ling and Jimmy Bartel.
Abbey Holmes, Jude Bolton and Mark Soderstrom round out football’s best team.
This Thursday night, the laughs return to the game as Mick Molloy, Sam Pang and Andy Maher assume their usual positions at The Front Bar to celebrate the lighter side of footy and catch up with some of the game’s biggest stars.
The boys will be joined by the usual regulars throughout the season, including 2020’s superstar recruit Andy Lee and fan favourite Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald, while Thursday night’s special guests will include former Collingwood and Carlton high-flyer Dale Thomas and AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan.
Some of the other LIVE and FREE blockbusters fans can look forward to on Seven over the next month, include:
- Richmond v Hawthorn, round three
- Western Bulldogs v GWS Giants, round three
- GWS Giants v Collingwood, round four
- Essendon v Carlton, round four
- West Coast v Richmond, round five
- Collingwood v Essendon, round five
On Friday nights, Telstra’s Friday Night Countdown will capture all the excitement leading into the big match, while post-game Adam Cooney and Cam Luke will again settle in on the Armchair Experts sofa, offering viewers their unique take on the action.
The prevailing market conditions that have severely impacted most sporting bodies throughout Australia have meant Seven has made the decision to temporarily suspend Talking Footy and Game Day.
Seven will continue to keep footy fans across all the game’s big issues via Inside AFL on 7NEWS, and in pre- and post-game coverage on match days.
Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin commented:
“As a consequence of COVID-19 we have seen tough and difficult decisions being made right across sport and we at Seven are no different. Talking Footy and Game Day have set the agenda in AFL circles for so many years and we hope with favourable conditions returning this will be a temporary hiatus for both.”
As always, fans in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia will be able to watch every game involving their local AFL teams on Seven.
AFL fans can also keep across all the action on the @7AFL social pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

WHY?
9 doesn’t even have rights, yet have close to the same amount of programs and content as Fox Footy, yet the FTA rights holders 7 don’t even put their regular programs to air!
$$$$$$$$$$$
But how much more does it cost?
It doesn’t make sense. If Fox Footy can continue to produce AFL 360 and On the Couch every week (albeit with reduced personnel), why can’t Seven make an AFL discussion show?
According to the AFL website, The Kick has also fallen victim to COVID-19 related cost-cutting.
Saturday night pre-game show The Kick won’t return in its same format, however, the network will provide a new-look pre-game offering.
The network will also air a Big Freeze special on Monday hosted by Daisy Pearce and Mick Molloy and feature Neale Daniher and sliders from all 18 AFL clubs.
This kind of programming doesn’t cost much to produce. I’m getting the impression that the network will no longer be producing local programming for individual states. The preference is to have all shows produced for a total national based audience. The Front Bar is going fully national into Sydney and Brisbane next week. We saw this with the local travel shows being axed, Today Tonight editions axed and now the local football shows are being removed.
They obviously all weren’t rating either? Though as for Game Day on Sunday morningsn it’s been going since 2008 and I believe was a decent competitor, often winning. Seven are beyond desperate for cash it seems.
The AFL should look at this and what nine is doing ahead of the next rights. Surely this puts nine in a great position to regain rights
No, they actually all were. Its to reduce costs and duplicating productions in different states.
Seven’s cost-cutting dated back to 2018 when they lost the rights to the tennis to 9 and won the FTA cricket rights.
First on the chopping block was the Australia Day Skyworks then the Melbourne Cup carnival.
But the AFL won’t.
Fox Footy is a different proposition though - if they stop producing those discussion programs, the justification for a dedicated footy channel becomes a thin one.
As for the Seven decision, I can understand somewhat the decision to ‘rest’ Talking Footy considering it aired on 7mate and its audience numbers perhaps didn’t justify it continuing as it was. However, the GameDay decision is puzzling considering you would have thought it got decent numbers off the back of Weekend Sunrise.
Most of the time, one thing matters when it comes to a sports rights auction - cash.
It’s all well and good for Nine to air as many AFL shows as they want. It doesn’t necessarily translate to them gaining an advantage when it comes to securing AFL rights.
And Nine are cutting costs too so they won’t shell out more cash for the AFL rights in the foreseeable future.
But the NRL rights come up at the same/a similar time as the AFL rights, so 9 could sign with the AFL and lose the NRL.
And vice versa?
Warburton doing a good job of killing seven. I’m yet to see one positive strategy from the bloke.
