Seven AFL Coverage

I don’t trust Sunday Night footy given the ratings haven’t been Stellar. It’s a better slot for crowds than Thursday, but ratings suggest that nobody really wants to watch footy once sunday night comes along. I think 7 should be pushing the AFL for a permanent friday night double header, with the later game airing live in WA. They should also be pushing for Swans and the Lions to share the Saturday night slot, so they can air those games live into the Northern states.

The Sunday night games 7 aired was all games that 7 would keep. Easter Sunday Night, Kings Birthday Eve, Gather Round & WA Day.

This season is 23 Thursday night games, if they are to have it every round next year then they can lose 2 Sunday night games (probably WA Day & Gather Round?)

Actually this year they had 2 games for Anzac Day, next year that’s a Saturday so they will probably only have 1, so they might only lose 1 Sunday night match.

This from the previous thread mentions 5 Sunday night matches on 7 but I think there was only 4 that actually aired on 7 - Gather Round end R5, Easter Sunday Night R6, WA Day R12 & Kings Birthday Eve R13

My best guess would be that the 5th Sunday night game would’ve been in the last round but that’s been quashed and replaced by an extra Thursday night to give both Gold Coast and Essendon enough time before their game penciled in for the Wednesday night the next week. 7 have 4 more games out of the 10 listed in Round 24 to get their 81 games per season quota.

So…

Round 24
Thursday night: Essendon vs Carlton
Friday night: Port Adelaide vs Gold Coast (I’d imagine this would be a double header and 7 Melbourne will show Collingwood vs Melbourne or something)
A Sunday afternoon game, no idea what.

Pre-Finals Bye Round?
Wednesday night: Gold Coast vs Essendon

The late one would’ve been counted as a Friday night game, so probably wouldn’t get removed next year.

I think the last 2 rounds Thursday nights were to be kept clear for the AFLW, but circumstances intervened this year. But who knows if they’ll try to do the same next year.

Thursday Night: EJ Whitten Match
Friday Night: AFLW

180k average in two markets for the lions and power last night on saturday night FTA. These figures in these two smaller markets prove that Saturday night FTA isn’t only dead, but it should be a permanent FTA fixture. Given the lack of NRL games on saturday night as well, it’s also always been the perfect slot for northern teams to play their games as well.

Remembering that the national rating includes regional QLD and South Australia as well as Brisbane and Adelaide.

I think this result would make 7 kinda happy. It shows that local markets matches rate for them without paying extra to produce matches. They got 180k for 1 match which has 2 markets.

If there are 2 Saturday night matches then there is a chance of 3 non vic markets which can rate even more

Despite the size and historical success of both teams, Essendon and Carlton’s seasons have absolutely crashed and burned, notably the latter’s with 3 weeks of key prime time slots and were expected to do well this year.

Radio lambasted them last week and 3AW Football has mentioned Essendon multiple times today (including from callers), as the fixturing was top of the agenda, following every single game this round ending in a thrashing.

Seven mistakenly showed a photo of ex-Tigers player Bill Barrot rather than the image of the late Ian Wilson. It was later corrected on replays via the 7plus app.

Does anyone else feel that Rebecca Maddern doesn’t really add much to the coverage?

I feel bad even saying this as I have been a supporter of hers for a very long time, she’s a pro and a trailblazer. However I just think her new career at Seven is all wrong, sport presenting inclusive, and should’ve remained on news presenting in some capacity somewhere.

Even her role(s) at Nine seemed more involved for her.

Unless it’s secretly all about a transition to replace Peter Mitchell one day, maybe even sooner than we think, who knows :man_shrugging: :eyes:

She should just stay back at 7 studios imo

Saturday Night 7 News in Perth is on at 5.30
AFL game Freo & Hawthorn from 6.10
Pregame at 5.30 on Mate

7’s Perth Team will be behind the mic for this game.

So 7Perth can call Saturday WA games now? Last month they used the Fox Feed for the North v Freo game at Optus. Or is that because Freo were the designated away team?

The AFL needs to get into the ear of Fox for their annoying scoreboard coverage. A couple of years ago, they removed all of this prominent branding as a lot of their games were broadcasted on 7 insterstate, but you can’t have a program airing on 7 with all of Fox’s logos and a promo to games exclusive to their platform

That’s fine because it’s a game that’s on 7 (7mate in nsw) not a Fox exclusive so it will have 7 logo etc. The screenshot from the saints socials was a game that was Fox exclusive so I was confused why it had 7 branding

Didn’t see any “Fox” in the coverage today.
