Seven AFL Coverage

New tech (the new ball tracking stuff?) in the VFL? I haven’t really watched the VFL at all so maybe it’s been used by 7VFL all season.

Any word on if 7WA will do their own call of the West Coast v GWS match @ Perth on Friday night?
If so, I believe that would be the first time 7 has called multiple matches at the same time since 2001, as 7Vic would be calling the Carlton v Collingwood match on the same night.

Though I wonder whether Sydney will get the 7 Perth commentary or the original Fox feed; Sydney got the Fox feed when Sydney defeated Fremantle at Optus Stadium in round two.

I would imagine they would get the Sydney feed, as I would imagine that the Perth commentary is more geared towards the WA audience - same thing happens when Seven Adelaide does local pre, half-time, and post-game - doesn’t get shown interstate if another state is airing that game, presumably due to it being geared towards a local audience.

Confirmed. Next Kids Call will be Collingwood v Fremantle at the MCG

Wasn’t that mentioned at the end of the previous Kids Call? Either way, good to see it’s still going.
Wonder where at the MCG the Kids will be commentating from. Last time was at Marvel, which has ample space for multiple TV comm teams. When Fox calls a 7 game at the 'G, they get stuck in a couple of radio booths, so space there is already at a premium.

Fans in other regions who want to listen to the Kids Call will have to wait for the full replay on 7plus later that night.

It may be a four-part series but it was not in last night’s schedule, and is not in next Wednesday’s schedule either. Seems that the June 25 premiere was to entice fans to catch the three remaining episodes on 7plus.

That is correct. It was always the intention for this show to be 7plus. The 1 episode broadcast was to entice people to 7+

Probably just the wrong overlay chosen

Probably because he’s cheaper?

BTS of 7WAFL

Nah they were in a corporate box, not a TV comms box

When does 7 start doing Saturday Night footy

Not during the regular season - initially when the current broadcasting deal was signed off on in September 2022, Seven wouldn’t do any Saturday night matches until round 17, but that was changed only a day or two before this season began (i.e. Saturdays are now only covered by Fox Footy, though local teams were delayed in the first half of the season).

Seven will obviously cover all of the AFL finals so the earliest they would do a Saturday match (or a Saturday double header for that matter) would be the first week of finals.

It was known when the fixture was released. The increase in Thursday night games and extra Sunday nights covers the 7 network allocation of games. Free to Air games remain the same.
