Kids’ call on today, featured on 7Plus
I wonder why 7 went with Jack Heverin for the kids call when they could have used some of their other commentators like Jason Bennett who doesn’t call all every round.
Maybe it’s 7 giving him a mini audition to see if they sign him for their sports AFL/AFLW/Cricket & rumoured NBL

Next Kids Call will be Collingwood v Fremantle- July 20th. Sunday 3:20pm MCG
I think it will be available in VIC, NSW & WA as there is a twilight match between Adelaide & Gold Coast for SA & QLD viewers
The 7 Kids call was pretty good for what it was. Alex killed it doing the play-by-play, Ned did better hosting than special comments, and Indie did well as boundary rider. Jack didn’t have to do much other than call when Alex needed a break. Only weak points were Moore & Weightman, but they’re still footballers so they get a pass.
Shaking Down The Thunder
Hear from AFL greats in the premiere documentary series on the Swans’ journey to break a 72-year Premiership drought
Shaking Down The Thunder , a four-part series premiering 10.00pm Wednesday on Seven and 7plus, takes an intimate look at the Sydney Swans’ journey to break the longest Premiership drought in AFL history, as they chase the 2005 flag.
Under the guidance of new wave coach Paul Roos, the beleaguered “Bloods” adopted a new ethos of leadership, brotherhood, commitment and empowerment which resulted in a new brand of football, one that at times raised eyebrows with critics.
Lead by a rotating group of captains including Barry Hall, and starring Michael O’Loughlin, Brett Kirk and young guns Adam Goodes, Jude Bolton and Leo Barry, the team would finally take to the hallowed turf at the MCG under blue skies for the AFL Grand Final against West Coast in front of 91,828 passionate fans.
It was a moment of hope, elation and nervousness for a club steeped in tradition dating back to 1874 in South Melbourne. Could this team break a 72-year Premiership drought against a formidable West Coast featuring maestro Ben Cousins?
Hear first hand from Goodes, O’Loughlin, Hall and a cast of former players, coaches, and members of the media how they overcame the odds to create history.
Shaking Down The Thunder is created and produced by Endemol Shine Australia (a Banijay Entertainment company) in association with AFL Studios and the Sydney Swans, for the Seven Network.
Shaking Down The Thunder
Premieres 10.00pm Wednesday, 25 June on Seven and 7plus
The Sydney Swans website also has an article on the documentary.
Fantastic doco tonight, wasn’t planning on watching, at least live, but have been fixed to this
Also good to see some classic footage from when Channels Nine and Ten had the AFL rights.
Never knew Rodney Eade did some media work after he stepped down as Swans coach in mid-2002.
And you could also tell the Ten commentators were hard on the Swans in that dreadful match against St Kilda midway through the 2005 season.
And I didn’t realise Ten’s Tim Gossage (Perth boundary rider) called for Fox Footy channel
When did he?
The 2002-2006 era. 9/10 would provide a commentator for Fox produced games.
Tim Gossage 10 and Cometti/Readings 9 for WA games.
SA would be Mark Aiston 10. Can’t remember for Sunday 9 SA games.
Sunday 9 SA games were Kym Dillon, according to Jason Bennett

Was it for that entire broadcast deal for all of them? Gossage did it for the whole deal but I kinda remember Commetti did it for a year or two only.
Early on he did but yes 2005 and 2006 he would always usually be on the 1pm channel 9 game. Hence Readings took over
I really cannot believe it! The AFL has moved Sunday 3:20 matches to 3:15 so they don’t run past 7’s 6pm News start time! Who runs the AFL, 7 or AFL? No wonder a friend of mine call it theA(lmost) F(inished) L(eague). Everything including rules, match times etc, made up on the run.
MATCHES in the 3.20pm AEST Sunday slot will start at 3.15pm AEST for the remainder of the season.
Games with a 3.20pm start time on Sundays are broadcast on both the Seven Network and Fox Footy and are intended to finish before 6pm, when Seven’s coverage switches to its nightly news bulletin.
But several 3.20pm games this season have concluded after 6pm, delaying Seven’s high-rating news broadcast.
After discussions with Seven, the AFL has moved 3.20pm Sunday games to 3.15pm for the rest of the season, starting with this weekend’s game between Richmond and Adelaide at the MCG.
It’s in any sporting league or competition’s interests to keep their rightsholders happy considering the ever-increasing amount they pay for rights.
In this case, a five minute adjustment for a standalone game is hardly the end of the world scenario you’re making it out to be.
Your opinion. There’s more ‘end of the world scenario’s’ than this in our world at present. I merely commented about something I see as ridiculous! You are entitled to see it as you please.
The NBA flexes games for their national broadcasters if teams are not performing well with games that should be good. This isn’t anything big like that, just starting the games 5mins early.
