SEN (Radio)

So surprising to see SEN return to a music format station.

They previously had MyMP, Classic Rock Radio and of course, 2CH to name a few.

Not so surprising to see SEN do something sponsored.

Some of us don’t need to be drunk to make shitty jokes on any forum, niche or not.

Why did he take off SENTrack on their Sydney multiplex. I get taking off SEN Melbourne, but I thought Huctchy was all about degenerate gambling and its associated revenue?

Is it actually known if it’s SEN internally handling the music, or if this is just their air and one of the music networks is actually doing the format?

What music format does SEN Spirit have now?

The last time I was in Sydney I actually found the SEN Melbourne DAB station to be useful as they had an AFL game on which was different to (and of more interest to me than) the one on SEN Sydney. Personally I’d be surprised if it’s not returned by the time the football season starts.

As for the Bunnings Tradio name. There’s a program on SEN at 5am which is a sort of pre-breakfast sports news roundup which has had various names depending on the sponsor of the time. ā€œTradies News In A Nutshellā€ and ā€œBunnings Tradioā€ seem to be the most frequent names for it…and it’s listed in the schedule at 5am still. Having an entirely different product of the same name on DAB is confusing.

I can’t see them bringing it back. They’ll tell you ā€œget the app, get the app, yada yada yadaā€ā€¦

Which I’d have to do now anyway as I’ve changed car since then and no longer have a DAB tuner lol

I’m assuming that SEN wouldn’t want to give up any of that Bunnings money to outsource it.

Looking at the Broadcast Guide, I’d say a non-existent one. It’s all imported sports shows apart from ā€œBreakfast with Jarred O’Brienā€ from 6-9am AWST.

Seems an odd choice, but SEN were at their limits in Sydney given they only have the one station there, their previous was:

SEN 1170 - 32kbps
SEN Track - 16kbps
SEN Melb - 16kbps
Rete Italia - 16kbps
Vision Christian - 64kbps (EEP 3B, makes the space for 1 extra 16kbps station)

So they kinda needed to drop the two stations to make the bare minimum 32kbps for music.

As noted above Sky’s broadcast guide is integrated into SEN’s so perhaps they’re setting up to perhaps neuter SEN Track in Sydney to get that deal done? If there’s nothing to that then seems very counter productive to lose one of their core stations off DAB for a music station, if Bunnings Tradio makes them more money than a format they’ve chased dozens of narrowcast stations across the country for, then they really do have the wrong business model.

That’s a big departure from early on, most of the daytime was a music shift, that’s a shame, and really poor for such an under served market.

It’ll be a shame when that replaces all the Triple M WA stations after SCA sell them. (I think I’m joking)

At least Bunbury still gets a local breakfast show.

Classic Rock Radio was a great station by Pacific Star Network. It was a crazy decision for SEN to blow it up for another horse racing station.

Probably because it only had about 50 listeners

I think Vision is using 36 CU which is equivalent to 48kbps EEP 3A

Not really considering SENTrack is likely more profiable than Classic Rock Radio was due to gambling advertising.

It sure was, still miss it. Playing streaming playing lists is just not the same. Pacific Star existed on a shoestring budget but SEN was a good radio station back then. Then HE got his hands on it.

Possibly, but to have 2 horse racing stations on AM, at the expense of a decent sounding Classic Rock station was terrible for Melbourne radio at the time.

According to Andrew Webster’s special Super Bowl column in News Corp papers today, Craig Hutchison has brought his usual posse of about 60 people to this year’s match, including Mick Malthouse and Jonathan Brown. Gerard Whateley has been broadcasting his morning show from Radio Row this week, and will call his ninth consecutive Super Bowl on Monday, Australian time.

Listed for tomorrow night across the SEN network. Something is coming. Wondering how many hours this lasts.

I mean, the alternative is live coverage of T20WC, so…

Is it Gabbo?

Unsurprisingly six hours from 11pm to 5am AEDT, currently impacted by the T20WC at the moment.

I don’t remember the last time SEN had an overnight show.
