SEN (Radio)

Haven’t tried it yet.

After over two weeks of muffled / distorted audio, 1629am SEN Mt Gambier is back sounding normal again.

The former Australian Test cricket captain will finish up at the station at the end of next week, following confirmation of his new role as Head Coach of the Australia A team.

Why does Sen have ratings figures in some states,
But not in SA & WA

Their station licences in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne are commercial licences (4KQ, 2CH and whatever the Melbourne one is), but those in Adelaide and Perth are narrowcast licences, which aren’t included in the ratings.

Melbourne is 3AK.

SEN Spirit in Bunbury is the only other surveyed SEN to my knowledge.

I’m still surprised SEN haven’t found a way onto DAB in the cities they don’t operate in, other than in Mandurah. In theory they could then join the DAB ratings.

I’m surprised SEN Spirit still exists with its hybrid music & sport format.

Why haven’t they completely axed the music and networked just like every previously music SEN station (eg 4KQ and 2CH).

Probably because it would rate an asterisk.

Since when have SEN cared about the ratings of their AM stations?

I thought they only used them as a tool for their other platforms (eg digital views and downloads). That’s all I seem to read about in their press releases.

I’ve heard Hutchy talk about this on the Sounding Board. Sounds like he’s been trying but hasn’t found anyone yet to lease them some DAB bits. Must be harder than it looks.

Which is pretty much what 4KQ rates now, to be fair

Australian opener Usman Khawaja has refused to participate in a post-play interview with SEN Radio in protest over the network’s treatment of veteran cricket journalist Peter Lalor.

Sources speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Khawaja’s decision related to SEN’s controversial axing of Lalor earlier this year, which the Test star views as unfair.

Craig Hutchison unfazed by Usman Khawaja’s interview boycott

SEN boss Craig Hutchison says he’s not fazed by Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja’s stance to boycott interviews with the broadcaster.

“I don’t know (why), I didn’t see it happen,’’ Hutchison said on his The Sounding Board podcast.

“But he clearly didn’t speak to us, which is fine.

“That’s his prerogative. That’s his right. I’ve got a lot of respect for Usman.

“And if he doesn’t want to talk to us, he doesn’t have to. It doesn’t mean a thing really in terms of our ability to broadcast the cricket. So if he didn’t want to talk to us, I don’t know why.”

Hutchison, who was in Barbados with clients, said he assumed the reason was due to the dismissal of Lalor midway through the tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year over a series of tweets and retweets he had made about the Gaza war.

(Hutchison’s comments on Usman Khawaja starts at 9:19)

now that 1260 is presumably not a dedicated racing station anymore, does that mean it is required now to fulfil local content requirements?

Yep, it will, quoting myself masterfully predicting this wouldn’t happen…

I wonder if it will be a partially music shift like SEN Spirit does, to make it easier to fill the time?
