Central Coast feed of SEN Track. Diverges from the Sydney feed (local ads aside) to take 1170 programming from 5-7pm weekdays (last hour of Joel + Fletch plus Sportsday) plus takes the full breakfast rather than departing at 8am - common to regional NSW/QLD Track stations.
But also has their own “Saturdays on the Coast” program in the morning, replacing the Saturday Bensley show (they’ve replicated the concept in some other regional Track stations but the CC market was the first). That’s about it I think?
They certainly make it more difficult than they should for people to discover the local variations and programming.
Given the cost of producing the shows they make, a website that can select your location, show you your local frequencies and content, and links to catch up/streaming seems like such a small thing to get done, especially compared to a $12 million station.
Their web site is an absolute mess with all the variations now, even with a state picker. Their app sorta does that, and in places like NSW, also substitutes versions that can’t be played here due to gambling ad legislation - eg. “SEN Vic”, a.k.a. “SEN Melboune” on DAB, being the NSW(/QLD/SA/?) gambling-ad compliant version of 1116, because advertising bonus bets on a non-racing station is a no-no unlike in VIC.
But it only does it at a state level, so although you get 1170 first in Sydney or 693 in Brisbane, you still get like six versions of Track + the metros that have some alternate programming + SENZ + Fanatic + breakaways for AFL Nation or the cricket.
Then again, their podcasts page is worse than their live streams. Given they boast about their podcast downloads, it’s a shock that anyone can find them, unless they’re getting them off the usual “wherever you get your podcasts”.
According to the SEN Broadcast Guide, tomorrow morning both SENQ and SENTrack in Brisbane will share the Cameron Smith Captain’s Run program at the same time. They’ll also simulcast the same NRL Game in Evening. However SENTrack’s coverage will primarily only cover the match and not the pre-game or post-game.
Not actively listening to these stations, I’m curious as to whether there are clean in and out points in the various programs/broadcasts for the stations to break-away and join? For example, SENTrack leaves the nightly greyhound racing program at 7.45pm to take the NRL coverage before re-joining the overnight racing program at 10.05pm.
SEN Track generally uses some type of hard-out junction point (typically followed by their usual 4 mins of ads) pretty much at any time during live programming when there are opt-outs, and coming back from such opt-outs…
Though notably, unlike the main stations, they don’t use them for news generally; if there’s a race to opine on on the hour and there’s no other reason for a forced break, they’ll delay the news.
So they likely would going in - they’ll take a forced break around 7.41 or so so Track NSW/QLD stations go to league*. Since they are onto automated programming after 10pm (“Racing Tales of the Turf” which is just this-is-your-racing-life hour-long things all night), I suspect the end of NRL programming won’t be a clean entry because there’s no point.
* More league than AFL because VIC regional Track stations don’t take the latter - SEN sell the rights to ACE Radio there, but there may be one or two stations (Perth? Northern Tas? Possibly Mildura if all they have is an SCA station there?) that opt out on some games.
I find it hard to believe ARN allowed SENQ to takeover its 4KQ Facebook page. With over 117k likes, it’ll be interesting to see how many of them are happy they’re now fans of a sports station.
I suppose intellectual property was also included in the sale - so it is strange that the 4KQ website isn’t redirecting to the SENQ website.
Not sure it was overly wise, reckon a clean slate would have worked better. All taking over 4KQs page did was give a lightning rod for angry 4KQ listeners to complain to, especially since there’s not an awful lot of overlap between baby boomers (I stereotype a little bit but that was their main market) and diehard sports fans.
SEN is calling the Wimbledon Men’s final tonight. Brett Phillips leading the call. They’re advertising it on AFL Nation as being on all of the SEN network.
Heard an ad earlier on SEN Fanatic just before the cricket saying that the SEN app was now on Android Auto as well as Apple Carplay.
Haven’t seen this appear on Android Auto yet for me though (and I have checked to ensure that my app is up to date) so they might have jumped the gun a bit there?
like 99% of people, I don’t listen to SEN but I checked out 1116 earlier. I don’t know who the newsreader of the 12.00pm bulletin was, but they seriously need to slow TF down. Going ten miles a minute. Hardly stopped for breath.
I don’t worry that they have to have ads. It’s a commercial station. But if they are only going to allow 60 seconds for a news break then just cut back the number of stories so it doesn’t sound so rushed that you don’t realise when a headline ends that you’re already halfway into the next one.
SEN SA is the same, rush through everything as news doesn’t bring in money like ads do. Surprised they don’t have a sponsored words per minute counter and get people to bet on it
When it was dumped and replaced with their own news, I recall Damien Barrett asking the question of Craig Hutchison on their Sounding Board podcast if it was just so Hutchy could play more ads! Clearly it was. I recall Hutchy dodged the question and claimed it was for more content.
