SEN (Radio)

I highly doubt SEN will do a Christmas Lights competition unless it is entirely paid for by someone else.

It’s SEN, everything is being paid for by “someone else”!

Yeah but you know what I mean. They don’t care about some Christmas Lights competition.

Good Lord. I only listen to their football coverage and I have the sponsors memorised. But only as sponsors of SEN and not as names I would go out of my way to buy something from, which is probably not what the advertisers were hoping for.

That’s a good point… in all the mention about Nine wanting Friday and Sunday 4pm being “exclusive” to 2GB (and 4BC), it didn’t pass through my head that that also would have applied to the two Continuous Call games on the Saturday arvo, which are… 5.30 and 7.30.

So much time with only one main radio station calling them that it wouldn’t have clicked about there being an “A” and “B” package like there is in the AFL.

Serves me right for listening to the ABC for games recently because I can’t stand the lot of 'em :joy:

There is exciting test match on in England but you can only hear it on SEN Fanatic. I think it should be on the main channel. The priority should always be live sport. They have plenty of extra time to talk about sport. By the time the main channel flick over it might be all over.

It’s on SEN1170 now.

It was on SEN Mel the other night.

It might it been after 9pm ? I did try at around 8pm or so. I must admit having it on analog radio is nicer than using a mobile phone… It is my old fashion ways… India certainly didn’t bowl well. Well done to England.

Yeah it hasn’t been consistent wall-to-wall coverage, possibly on SEN Fan but not always on SEN1170 or SEN Mel.

Especially late or over night test cricket. Something romantic about an old transistor radio under your pillow listening to The Ashes for example.

Having your iphone/mobile under the pillow just isn’t same… sure you can set sleep timer but not the same. 1170 / 693/ 1116 I am sure bring the cricket after 11pm depends how early you go to bed :).

Unfortunately it seems the existing evening programs get priority during the week (perhaps unsurprising if they’re paid to put them on; the night programming has always been a little bit like that) - which has made the coverage outside of Fanatic quite uneven.

They planned to play the whole day on Tuesday night over AM, for instance…but the Monday and Wednesday it was only planned to start at 10pm due to other programs, and Sunday night was cut off in Sydney by Spirit of Sport. :man_shrugging:

Do they care? If it means it brings in more money the way they’ve done it (not caring just about radio)… probably not.

It would be great at least instead of “SEN Coast” on DAB they add SEN Fanatic instead or will SEN Coast bring in more money? Or they could have pop up station for “SEN Live Cricket” on DAB. Its better branding. They could change the description when the Cricket is over, to whatever sport it is.

That’s just too difficult. Just have “SEN+” or something and play the capital’s SEN and then break away for live sport as required (like Radio 5 Live Sports Extra).

yeah they did have “SEN +” before down in Victoria. Maybe when they had 3MP.

Just not sure of the objective, after putting the effort to bring the cricket just for SEN in the UK (excellent broadcast for a station on a budget at the ground etc) , it is then just an online stream half the time, why not on DAB as well? I don’t follow the logic esp when DAB exists and in Victoria ie they have SEN FAN.

I think they have the DAB SEN channels right in Melbourne

SEN 1116
SEN FAN
SEN SYDNEY
SEN Track

SEN Sydney

SEN 1170
SENCoast
SEN Melbourne
SENTrack

Anyway I am repeating myself a bit  .

Agreed. SEN Coast is mostly a rebroadcast of SEN Track. SEN Fan would have a wider variety of sports coverage.

SEN Fan(atic) is a missed opportunity - it is just a 1116 simulcast far too much of the day.

I’d use it for some of the SENQ/SEN SA/SEN WA/SENZ local content in addition to the overflow live sport. Maybe playing the alternate AFL Nation calls when that’s viable would be nice too.

That’s sorta how it -was- initially, about half of it was simulcasts from Melbourne but then shows from elsewhere, like the Perth breakfast and some bits an bobs from Sydney and SA.

Although still being half Melbourne is a relic of when they owned 1377 (when yes, it was SEN+ before it became the temporary Melbourne home of Track, and basically relayed 1116, or highlights of 1116 at least, except for more niche sport like A-League), and why they’re scared of putting it on in Sydney.

I can’t even see what it’s meant to be now as their guide has dropped off Fanatic for some unknown reason. Dunno whether that means they’ve given up on alternate daytime programming or it’s just broken. Who knows with their guide.

On the other hand, SEN Track Central Coast as a DAB station? What they heck are they doing? It has one local program on it! :grimacing: It’s bad enough that it’s the default station for Track on RadioApp, as they relay 5-7pm from 1170.
