SBS might have missed out on NBL broadcast rights which went to Nine, but it had gained the rights to show the women’s league. From this weekend SBS will simulcast one match per week with finals to be confirmed later. The SBS simulcast will also be available on SBS On Demand and website. Fox Sports will continue to broadcast and stream one match per week live, and all finals live.
It will be the first time since the end of 2014-15 season that WNBL is on FTA TV.

The SBS simulcast games can be found here
Based on current scheduling, there will be at least ten Saturdays when WNBL on SBS goes head to head with NBL on 9GO!.
The 2018-19 NBL and WNBL seasons were jointly launched in Sydney’s Luna Park today.

Noticed there was no mention yesterday of SBS showing the US Open next year - wonder whether it’s just the case of their initial deal expiring & the rights for 2019 are being negotiated or if they decided to drop it

Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club is a bit slow for the official announcement, no updates on social media yet.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow so the announcement might happen then

Kooyong Classic gets new days too. This year it was from Wednesday to Saturday IIRC, next year will be on Tuesday-Thursday.
SBS will be the third broadcaster of the tournament after ABC and Seven. It will only be the second time the tournament gets full coverage, when it was covered by Seven it was mixed with Sydney International telecast which made a lot of tennis fans unhappy.

That’s why I am happy that Kooyong got moved to a new channel as this pointless exibition tournament wont interrupt the Sydney tournament any longer.

It’s kind of gone under the radar in this thread (apart from the lack of HD earlier on) but I’ve found The World Game’s coverage of the Copa Libertadores final to be superb. They’ve had to deal with lengthy delays and constantly changing developments (sums up SBS’s year with the World Cup fiasco!) but they’ve been able to deliver really good analysis of what is now an unfortunate situation in Buenos Aires, both from a sporting and societal perspective. I’ve rediscovered SBS as a football source in the last 12 months with the World Cup, EPL and Fox Sports’ diminishing presence in the sport, and it’s obvious that they treat each game; whether it be a blockbuster EPL matchup or a quarter-final Copa game, with the respect it deserves.

Also, Lucy Zelić has been putting in some long shifts of late - two weeks ago she hosted the Matildas v Chile friendly on the Saturday afternoon, that nights EPL game, and then the first leg of the Copa final early Sunday morning. She’s been brilliant throughout, though surely SBS can give her some backup!

The draw for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France was held at Île Seguin in Paris overnight. Australia were placed in group C alongside Brazil, Italy and Jamaica. The Matildas have beaten Brazil four times in a row since the 2016 Rio Olympic Games quarter final in which the home side won in a penalty shootout.
Australia will kick-start their campaign against Italy at the Stade du Hainaut in Valenciennes on Sunday, June 9 before meeting Brazil at the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier four days later. They will complete their group stage matches against Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz at Grenoble’s Stade des Alpes on June 18.
SBS and Optus Sport share the broadcast rights to the tournament.

Was wondering this as the deal for ESPN with the US Open was for 5 years (till 2021). Guessing they only had a two year deal as far as SBS goes as a FTA partnee

The FFA announced yesterday that the W-League match between Newcastle and Adelaide, due to kick off at 4pm AEDT tomorrow (Sunday), has been postponed to 9.30am AEDT Monday due to forecast high temperature. As the result, the match will only be live streamed and there will be no coverage on SBS Viceland as scheduled.

What is airing on Viceland at that time? Pretty poor for them not to take coverage

Viceland aired a replay of Friday’s Victory vs Perth W League match in the Sun timeslot.

its good that SBS Viceland are showing a game now, even if it is a replay.

But they still should have shown tomorrow morning’s match LIVE. It would rate better that the International News, which rates almost next to nothing.
