Walking Britain’s Lost Railways - Season 3

image

Saturday 3 July at 7:30 pm

From the 1960’s, the axe fell on 4,000 miles of Britain’s rail network. Now, decades later, Rob Bell is going on journey to uncover those lost railway lines. Every week, Rob will explore a different line, experiencing the hidden landscapes, lost infrastructure, and forgotten worlds that disappeared when the line closed.

He’ll experience how, once gone, the lost line affected the community, industry, and lifestyle of the area. But Rob will also be celebrating the new life that’s been created, from the old railway stations that are now beautiful homes, to restored signal boxes and the impressive heritage railways that have sprung up all over the country.

It’s good to see the Tour De France starting at 8.30pm each night (bar Thurs when its at 9.30pm) on SBS’s main channel. Has it always started at 8.30 on SBS? Or did it used to start then on Viceland, then switch to SBS around the 9.30pm mark or so?

Yes. It used to start at 9:30pm on the main channel.

Treasures Of Malta

Sunday 4 July ay 7:30 pm

At only 17 miles across it may be the world’s tenth smallest country - but don’t be fooled by its diminutive size. Bettany Hughes discovers how Malta is a cultural hub laden with some of the world’s most precious treasures. This is an island where civilisations from East, West, North and South have met and cross-fertilised. Here Bettany reveals the workings of the Neolithic mind and ancient shipwrecks, mediaeval castles and WWII relics. From the ancient Phoenicians to Napoleon, historical outsiders have left their distinct footprints on Malta, covering the island with monuments from every time period, making it one of the best time-capsules in the world. The wonders Bettany explores include Royal Malta, where Elizabeth II lived as a newly-wed with Prince Philip until 1951. At Fort St Angelo, home of Crusader Knights we reveal not only their bloodthirsty story, but have exclusive access to the underground, hidden city they built in the rock of Malta itself.

Apparently Secret Scotland was taken off the schedule with one episode to go in series 2 (Ayrshire and Arran). Now we have to wait until Tour de France finishes before we see that episode. Could it be paired with series 3 which has ten episodes?
