Note that the Total TV table aggregates ABC and ABC News. Some high BVOD numbers for ABC’s coverage. Some of the entries near the bottom (1% Club) would be overrun from finishing well after 11:30pm

The Telegraph is running with the story that the audience ditched the ABC

“Viewers were searching for their remotes during the first part of the ABC’s Coronation coverage due to Q+A host Stan Grant’s comments.”

Maybe the bvod figures are figures are high because people are curious to see what this goose was going on about?

Ten holding up strongly in regional markets

10’s coverage jumped by over 100k just in the “metro overnights” alone, and ranked 12th in total people. Not surprised that the ABC rankings had ABC/ABC-News combined. Makes the list less “jumbled”.

The Breakfast shows made the top 30.

The NRL and AFL rated lowly, but understandably so.

Just because people don’t want to spend their Saturday watching a long coronation doesn’t mean they’re republicans.

I chose to wait for highlights on YouTube.

When you have multiple channels effectively showing the same thing, this is unlikely to happen - the market is split by the ability to choose where to watch it.

Looking at the VOZ, Seven’s Coronation was let down by not going with main channel in Melbourne (took the risk and back fired as predicted all week - was that 7Two share and therefore network share worth that?) where (going off usual Melbourne market and Seven News and what Nine News Melbourne did) they probably could’ve had a further 200-250k! Plus another say ~75k+ regional Victoria and ~50k Tasmania at a guess, so maybe ~1.4m, which also would’ve been above Seven News 6pm as No. 1 program.

I did wonder that, which explains the changed rankings, but as “Total” is fair enough.

Of course and acknowledged. However, I’m sure Seven once or twice did 30%+ main channel and maybe 40% network for a royal event since OzTAM started, when they went high 1m or 2m metro overnight broadcast. I’m happy to be corrected @TV.Cynic.

If Twitter was anything to go by, ABC viewers were switching to 10 for the coronation coverage.

I think the 10 result comes from the fact that it was purely a BBC feed without any talking heads from Australia running their uninformed commentary over the top. That’s the only thing aiming they’re higher than usual numbers for this royal event.

Agreed:

Well 10 messed up any chance of that with 16% when they might have been expected to get closer to 6%

The majority of the country aren’t watching FTA at all at any time.

Agreed - bonus points for 10.
I suspect as you say there was an element of people switching channels and seeing/hearing Aussie talking heads so moving on until they found just a straight feed.

I was one of the viewers for 10. As others said, they had a clean feed without visual clutter.
Big results overall. Nine the biggest loser (in terms of Seven v Nine) . Seven trumped them.

They may have but in reality the viewers have to put up with the tacky large graphics, visual clutter, fat fonts. Then you add to that the sub-par and mediocre network personalities from 7news. 7news is the Kmart of news. Very cheap with the appearance of quality but in reality lacks the intellectual heft of more quality brands. They are news for the masses, particularly those out west. The great unwashed tend to lap up the crap they put to air.

9 were also a disaster last night with their cheap and nasty coverage.

The BBC were the way to go it would seem.

I’m very impressed with the number of people praising Ten for their coverage because apparently people don’t turn to Ten for this type of thing

Interesting

They don’t “have to” put up with anything. There were other options and they still chose Seven News. They weren’t forced.

Lol 10 didn’t do anything. It was relayed coverage from overseas. Not sure they deserve such praise.
