I agree, he was fantastic last night, as he was on the evening when the Queen passed away.

Yes I must admit that Seven had the better product out of all the networks last night. The extra investment in sending more resources over to cover it paid off.

IIRC a lot of people complained that ABC’s coverage of the Queen’s passing was too “one-sided” and didn’t present a critical perspective on the monarchy. But whatever ABC does it will never win, it will always be accused of being “too woke” by the right wing nutters, and “too Murdoch” by the left wing nutters – both sides seeing extreme bias when in reality probably none exists.

Either way, I didn’t see ABC’s coverage much at all, I stuck with Ten for most of it, expecting to be among the dozens of others doing the same, though Ten actually managed a decent figure by its usual standards. It was a basic coverage but I think did all that it needed to.

same on TV3 in NZ

Anyone watching 6pm bulletins on East Coast? Weirdly 9 Melbourne isn’t leading with the Coronation. Just some missing women who’s been found, but we knew she’d been found on Friday.

7 Melb was all Coronation - just going to first break before ‘the rest of the days news’ at 6:18.

I just don’t see how the Coronation isn’t the top story. It’s historically significant

Weird indeed, 7news is running that story now, 23mins in. Much more appropriate.

I get not everyone is into the Coronation. But it’s a globally significant historic event. Wonder if 9 is trying to be ultra local because they’re struggling in the ratings?

I can understand those criticisms (although I do not agree with them) and how they might have felt this was one way of responding. I do draw the line at the day of the funeral though, having pundits criticising her and the monarchy on air on that day would have been extremely tasteless (and also exactly what would have happened if Stan had his way).

It would have been fine if say on Friday night they ran a program with Stan and Fozz where they put forward their alternative views on the monarchy. Having it as actual part of the ceremony coverage though was completely inappropriate however.

In case you missed it

Many bulletins tonight had a similar structure, opening with a pre-recorded report about the ceremonial aspects, then one about what was happening before and after the service. Then followed live reports from London.

ABC News Victoria tonight did not lead with Coronation either. The lead item was the major breakthrough in the West Gate Tunnel project, and also a plan to expel controversial MP Moira Deeming from the state Liberal Party.

Not surprising. We know how the ABC feel about the Royal Family…

Moments away from coming to a major realisation here…

Doesn’t the British monarchy symbolise the freedom of being able to criticise things without the threat of being thrown into a gulag? Honestly.

History and the guillotine suggest otherwise. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
