Manly celebrated Kieran Foran becoming a full time head coach with a 28-14 win over Souths at Brookvale tonight.
Possible testing the waters for a 20th license?
Dual-occ at the new stadium?
Could be coupled with a new rectangular stadium and an A-Leagues license.
If the NRL expanded to another AFL city Adelaide would have to be next in line. But Ipswich/NZ2 seem to be favoured as the 20th team.
It’s not going to be anyone other than 2nd NZ or 5th Queensland (but not Brisbane based) team.
I think a Pacifika team based in NZ would be more benefical than another Queensland team. Any Australian team probably should be moved from Sydney elsewhere.
I doubt the next team will be Pacifika team based in NZ, given the recent failure of Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby.
Well even if it’s not a Pacifika team per say, the next team should be in NZ. We really don’t need another Brisbane team. Central Queensland would be OK, but the NRL needs to capitalise on the success of the Wahs and the growht of RL in NZ by getting another NZ team, probably in Wellington or Canterbury.
It would need to be in Canterbury/the South Island I suspect.
I don’t think a Pasifika team would work in NZ either and I’m confused by the suggestion by Aussie scribes.
The Warriors already have that market cornered from a player and fanbase perspective - it’s changing, but league has long been a Pasifika-led (fan and player) game in NZ.
A South Island team makes sense (North Vs South) and Christchurch has a new rectangular stadium with a roof.
I reckon we need more Sydney teams ![]()
Bring back the Glebe and Annandale teams of the 1910s, and merge them. And rebuild Birchgrove Oval into a master ground. And local derby between Balmain/Tigers…
Jokes aside. For me, I would like to see Adelaide return. A second team in NZ could work. “North vs South Islands” sounds good. But i dont know enough of the regions.
Id hold off a 5th QLD team for now.
Storm beat Knights 32-30 in a thriller at AAMI Park tonight. It was Melbourne’s first Friday night win of the season.
Fark me dead, this game was a tough watch.
Good game to watch though.. Knights scored some good tries.
Ponga stopped a Storm try with a shoulder charge, this time was not even a penalty. Very odd.
Queensland Cup clubs hold secret talks over Super League-style breakaway competition
A group of Queensland Cup clubs have held secret talks over a proposed Super League-style breakaway competition, amid growing disenchantment with the Queensland Rugby League.
Several executives have met over the past month to discuss breaking away from the Queensland Rugby League’s famous Hostplus Cup competition and setting up a rebel 12-team league.
The 12-team Super League proposal includes clubs from Burleigh, Brisbane Tigers, Wynnum Manly, Norths Devils, Ipswich, Townsville, Northern Pride and Papua New Guinea.
Roosters held Raiders scoreless in their 26-0 victory at the national capital tonight. Incredibly there were no more scores for the final 32 minutes of the match.
Bad news for Storm, with news that winger Xavier Coates is out for the rest of the season after rupturing his achilles at training today. It means he will also miss the remainder of the State of Origin series, as well as the World Cup later this year.
The proposed redevelopment includes:
Expanding stadium capacity from 17,000 to approximately 23,000.
Residential towers on the eastern side of the ground, including affordable housing for the community and local first responders.
Classrooms beneath the western stand for local schools, including Brookvale Public School and St Augustine’s College.
Demolition of the Jane Try, Ken Arthurson and Lyons-Menzies grandstands.
New undercover seating throughout the venue.
Retention of the Bob Fulton Stand and the club’s high-performance centre of excellence.
Dedicated infrastructure for women’s and junior sport.
Development of a year-round community precinct surrounding the stadium.
Well it seems the redevelopment didn’t do much for the ground. And they played a season at Kogarah for this
I think the redevelopment was more about the shopping centre/apartments on either side of the ground.
