Shane Richardson quit as Wests Tigers CEO today, a week after club chairman Barry O’Farrell (former NSW premier) and three other independent directors were sacked by the club.

So realistically what is the prospect of the mered entity falling apart and once again becoming the Western Suburbs Magpies?

Unless the NRL gives into the demands of Holman Barnes, not likely. The Inner West is fertile Swans land (and any number of football clubs - both A-League, AC and below) - you don’t want them to win that area.

It’s kind of been heading that way for a few years - I don’t think anyone is game enough to actually pull the trigger though.

Relocate them to Christchurch.

That sounds…strangely…feasible.

But then again, they don’t want to lose either the Inner West or the South West parts of Sydney. We don’t want any other sport to get a foothold in or down there do we?

They could play a home game there each year.

(James) Marape was visiting Australia for an annual PNG investment conference in Sydney, also attended by Anthony Albanese.

The PNG leader was wrong-footed by a goosestep from colourful ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys, who said rugby league would be a tool to repel Chinese influence.

“Having rugby league there for the community as a whole — taking the kids to school, bringing all the people together like a glue,” V’landys said on Tuesday.

“No matter how much investment China makes in PNG, it can never achieve that.

“You can never achieve the heart and soul and brain of the PNG person — and we can in sport.”

Marape hurriedly stepped in to affirm support for critical Chinese investment in his country.

“I want to quickly say a word or two, a big thank you to China and all our bilateral partners,” he interrupted.

Lucky for the wests tigers they won a title all those years ago. It’s all been downhill since. I don’t pretend to have answers but something has to be done to get it running properly again (keeping the heritage of both clubs involved).

I agree. The highs for the Tigers were their title win in 2005. And sadly, have been on the downhill ever since. The whole board saga this week hasn’t helped. Or was it what they needed (for a fresh start?).

I can’t see them unmerging anytime soon - if not - ever? Although there has been talk on this for some time though. Probably since the Balmain Leagues Club closed in 2010,

The Tigers have only ever played three finals series in their quarter-of-a-century existence as a merged entity (2005, 2010 and 2011).

That’s as many times as the Melbourne Storm have missed the finals (2001, 2002 and 2010), though in the case of 2010 they were sentenced to finish with the wooden spoon after the salary cap scandal was uncovered that year.

FWIW, 2002 was the last time the Storm legitimately missed the finals due to not winning enough games.

Wests Tigers players threaten to leave if coach Benji Marshall exits club

A cluster of high-profile Wests Tigers players have told football staff they would consider quitting the embattled club if coach Benji Marshall walks away – or is sacked – during the club’s ugly boardroom brawling.

And they could land collectively in Perth.

Players are fed-up with the club’s political infighting as Marshall desperately attempts to quarantine his roster from the damaging headlines.

The Wests Tigers: the club that just keeps giving, giving, giving…itself upper cuts.

I know my club has got issues, but at least I can say, I’m not the Wests Tigers.

Seriously, someone has got to intervene.

SMH are now reporting Barry O’Farrell will be asked to return as chairman and Benji’s contract will be extended, what a mess.
