Rugby League

The other classic is ‘it’s a rebuilding year’. Unfortunately, the Dragons have always struggled to keep their stars, hence more bricks are taken away and the whole house of cards keeps falling.

Would have also been nice if more came to the games

Couldn’t go to Friday’s game as 6pm matches coming up from Sydney are very inconvenient, unless I take half a day off. Which I couldn’t as I had a meeting with my boss in the arvo.

Couldn’t go to Saturday’s match as I was crook and confined to bed for much of the day and the weekend. I do have a NRLW membership (I think I’m member no. 4 when they first came out) so I do put my money where my big fat mouth is.

Why not the Hunters? Using the Queensland Cup name worked for the Dolphins.

Can’t use Kumuls, that’s the national team nickname.

Broncos star Payne Haas defects from Australia to play for Samoa

Broncos and NSW Blues star Payne Haas has abandoned the Kangaroos to play for Samoa, leaving new coach Kevin Walters scrambling ahead of the historic Ashes series.

Haas vowed to make a formal decision on his Test allegiance after this year’s State of Origin series and the Brisbane prop has opted for Samoa.

Haas has privately informed Samoan players of his decision. The 118kg prop will make his Test debut in blue against New Zealand in Auckland on Sunday, October 19.

Eels forward Shaun Lane has announced his retirement from the NRL effective immediately, the club has announced.

Lane hasn’t played since taking an indefinite break from the game back in April to weigh up his future.

He only played in five games this season and will pull the curtain on his career after 186 NRL games.

Lane joined the Eels in 2019, and played in 138 games for the club, including a grand final against Penrith in 2022.

The 30-year-old will remain at the club in another capacity, accepting a role in the Elite Pathways program.

It was reported on Nine News Sydney tonight that the new Allianz Stadium at Moore Park will be unable to host finals matches this year due to the poor drainage issues.

It will be closed from 13th September for 10 weeks to be ready to host concerts in January.

Guess this means Accor Stadium at Homebush will host all Sydney based finals from Week 2 of the finals series.

I think Parramatta stadium is eligible to host week 2 and 3 finals too.

Just give us the wooden spoon now.

Titans have Warriors (H), Dolphins (A), Tigers (H).

Knights have Broncos (H), Sharks then Eels (both away).

Titans have easier draw and I think could win one of their home games to draw level with Newcastle and move up to 16th with a better F/A.

Knights :head_shaking_horizontally:

I wonder what the starting time for a Warriors home would be if it was on a Friday night?

Typically 8:00pm NZST (meaning a 6:00pm start AEST).

For a final? I think it would only be scheduled Saturday/Sunday.
