Rugby League World Cup 2017

Great to see Seven will be replaying the two Australian group matches following coverage of the Australian men’s QF and (most likely) SF matches to give the Jillaroos well-deserved exposure.

RLWC was airing on both Ch 7 and 7mate in Melbourne for a few minutes.

Oops.

EPG said “The Green Mile” (1999) should’ve started on 7mate at 8:36pm, didn’t start until 8:39pm & with a weird full screen graohic and V/O from somebody that wasn’t John Deeks advising VIC to switch (even though Ch 7 already had).

A generic crawler also aired on 7mate beforehand advising, different to the usual (no box).

Anybody got thoughts?

I’m starting to think NRL haven’t given permission for RLWC to air on 7mate in Melbourne for Australia games?

Otherwise why wouldn’t Seven?

Beaten by Harry Potter movie repeat on Ch 9!

Does Seven usually overlap the coverage of sport when switching between two channels? I’ve seen it happen intentionally with tennis so viewers don’t miss anything.

You might be right.

They waited until Samoa’s dance was done.

Seven showed the closing minutes of the quarter final between Tonga and Lebanon on the main channel in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Showed all the game on the main channel, didn’t they? Well, they did in TAS anyway.

LOL

7mate beat Ch 10 again :joy:

More embarrasing when you consider RLWC last night was only in prime-time (share) in 3 markets, one an AFL state and one for only 30min!

Maybe 7mate should now be considered Australia’s 3rd commercial channel, and Ten a secondary channel

Nothing to do with this??

Yes, no doubt the International Rules on 7mate in Perth helped.

But the Sydney share from 6pm to 7:30pm for RLWC would’ve been way higher in comparison.

The NRL has nothing to do with it. The World Cup isn’t NRL property

Well whoever is in charge of it then for Australia?

I’d be interested as to who calls the two sem-finals. Mark Braybrook and the team will do the game in Brisbane, while Glen Larmer and the team will do the other semi, as it is in NZ.

The final couple of weeks of this is going to be dismal. Australia will likely romp past Fiji this weekend, then do similar to England/Tonga the week after. NZ’s early exit means ratings will be softer (as even though they were crap, more likely to draw viewers than Fiji this weekend)

RLWC Semi Finals

Australia makes it bid for a Rugby League World Cup final berth on Friday night as the Kangaroos face a Fijian outfit fresh from upsetting the Kiwis.

It’s the third time Australia has taken on Fiji in a World Cup semi-final and Mal Meninga’s men will be aiming to maintain their unblemished record against the Islanders.

Then on Saturday, England battles Tonga at Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium, as the Tongans make their historic first Rugby League World Cup semi final appearance after their epic two-point quarter final victory over Lebanon.

Seven will also broadcast this weekend’s women’s RLWC semi finals on Sunday as Australia faces Canada, while New Zealand battle England for a spot in the final.

Seven is delivering every match of the Rugby League World Cup and Women’s Rugby League World Cup across the screens of Seven, with live simulcast streaming of all broadcast matches through 7Live (both live and replayed matches). In addition, 7Live is delivering exclusive live coverage of four women’s matches. Seven is also delivering across social media with video on demand and latest news and highlights through Redirecting... and twitter.com/7Rlwc (#7RLWC)

Seven’s Friday night coverage will be hosted by Jim Wilson and Laurie Daley, along with Renee
Gartner and Mark Geyer. Mark Braybrook will call Friday night’s match with expert commentary from
Gary Belcher and Brett Kimmorley on the sidelines.

On Saturday Glen Larmer, Daryl Halligan and Monty Betham will call the action, with Jim and Laurie
joined in the studio by Benji Marshall and Allana Ferguson.

Mel McLaughlin and Renee Gartner will host Sunday’s coverage as David Tapp and Drury Forbes call
the action alongside experts Andrew Ryan, Bill Harrigan and Nathan Cayless.

I didn’t get to watch a lot of the coverage, but I enjoyed Seven’s coverage generally speaking – their graphics package is boring and plain though imo.

I find their overall coverage better than Nine’s but not as good as Fox’s.

I’ve found it to be really, really flat.

The most interesting game has been New Zealand v Tonga and Lebanon v Tonga and both were a Sky NZ production really

After conceding an early penalty, Australia flexed its muscles in Fiji, eventually winning tonight’s semi final 54-6 at Suncorp Stadium with Valentine Holmes scoring a record six tries. Holmes scored 11 tries in two weeks and 12 for the tournament - breaking Wendell Sailor’s record for the most tries in a single tournament. The Kangaroos will return to Suncorp next Saturday night to face either Tonga or England, and Seven will be hoping for a good audience against the Ashes day/night test. IIRC this will be the first time since 2009 rugby league comes up against cricket in primetime on Australian TV. (In 2009 SBS showed the Ashes series from England while Nine had Friday Night NRL)
