Rugby League World Cup 2017

Not that I care.

But mixed response to Seven’s RLWC.

Many praising new network / fresh commentary.

While others not liking getting used to another network covering Rugby League, particularly one with an AFL heritage.

Note to true sport enthusiasts: It’s the game and score that matters

For me, the main blot on Seven’s coverage was the studio hosting.

Why couldn’t Jim Wilson and co have been at the ground to host it?

It just looks cheap, and being the World Cup opener and with the Aussies playing, they had to be there.

They did well otherwise, even if Adrian Morley’s accent was bit hard to understand, but it was worth it to have an British balance to the commentary.

I agree that Seven’s studio coverage looks cheap.

For all the faults (and there are more than a few!) of Nine’s rugby league coverage, I think even they would probably be presenting coverage from the grounds if they had the World Cup rights!

You’d think people would remember that the Seven Network had the rights to the last Rugby League World Cup.

Even without taking that into consideration, Seven has aired coverage of rugby league in the (admittedly, distant) past…

They have shared UK TV rights with Premier Sports so maybe the radio rights were bundled in as well?

It will be live on 7Live app from 4pm AEDT.

does anyone no if the games will be added to there online site “plus7” to watch at a later date if we cant watch live?

Not sure about plus7 but there’s a replay shown on 7mate of every match, well at least this week that’s the case.

I thought it was a refreshing back-to-basics style of coverage. A focus on the actual footy. Seven would be happy with the ratings too.

I think its safe to say the RLWC was a massive success for Seven, especially in Melbourne.

Great ratings to start off. Good to see rugby league on another network.

Regional Qld gets a HD replay of last night’s game as well as most of the games on 7Mate.

Wow, those ratings are impressive. Nine,Ten and radio kicking themselves already.

Seven said the biggest Friday night Rugby League ratings (metro) of the year.

Nine execs wouldn’t be pleased to see that.

I know it’s a world cup, but still, much closer to regular NRL (than SOO or GF).

Also, I’m pretty sure Seven have the exclusive TV rights to the Rugby League World Cup. Nine has to compete with Fox League when it comes to regular season NRL games these days.

I’m sure Seven are delighted with last night’s ratings nonetheless. Nine, Ten, Fox League and radio must be regretting not bidding harder for the rights now.

Already, i’m going to say it, but Mark Braybrook is better than Ray Warren.

Clutching at straws Mr Ch 9?

It’s actually a fair point; if anything, it says a lot about 9’s coverage given that Fox League continues to eat away at their audience share each round.

Yep, I completely agree.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Surely I’m not the only one who thinks Laurie Daley would probably be a better lead presenter of Seven’s RLWC2017 coverage than Jim Wilson?

These scorecards and graphics are Sky NZ’s just without the team logos on it.
