Regional Affiliation Swap 2021

In fairness, either Brisbane or Melbourne news has about equal relevance to Hobart.

News And Current Affairs promo (Victorian version)

Obviously a Queensland version with two presenters they would never have seen before. Wouldn’t be difficult to cut the Vic and Qld versions together as a Tas version surely.

Which won’t happen. The writing is on the wall. They’ve had eight years and done nothing but produce paper after paper, meanwhile real decisions have had to be made (cutbacks).

But as long as Nine get their 50%…

An excellent promo from 10 for the SCA change of affiliation.

Looks like TV Week was indeed wrong on the LCNs and my EPG was correct, showing 10Peach on 52.

So a two way fight with Prime in a couple of years, though can’t see Seven being willing to pick up the local news responsibility on behalf of SCA in the same way that Nine did.

And I guess they’ll time those affiliation agreements so a few years after that we’ll probably get a three way fight with WIN, SCA and Prime. Gut feeling though is SCA are basically more concerned with maximising their value for a potential sale to a metro station once restrictions are lifted rather than who they serve.

“…and you can now get 10 Shake on Channel 54”

There. They officially stated in the ad that regional areas haven’t had the channel before.

Can’t wait to see the comments on various Facebook groups and pages “where the hell is 9Life” … “why is Masterchef not on WIN tonight” etc…

By the way the Yourtv guide has Ch 10 programs listed under Nine for next Thursday lol
(Location set to Rockhampton)

I don’t know; anyone knows a monopoly not only gets efficiencies from centralising and removing duplication but can raise prices because of a lack of competition.

As others have said, what really makes sense is the metros taking over their affiliates; there’d be no real reduction in ‘voices’ since what’s broadcast would remain almost identical, there’d still be competition, and no need to allow any company more than one TV licence in each area (except for the current JVs, etc.).

That’s less likely than 5 years ago, as it should only be for (the now fewer) TVs that don’t auto rescan, since there won’t be a channel named “WIN” any longer.

I recorded a bit of SC9 last night (don’t ask me how) and skimmed through the commercial breaks today. 3 hours and not one sign of that new 10 promo.

I mean really, these guys have got to bombard viewers with these promos if they want a smooth transition. Making some shorter 5 second versions to place before the first promo for -every- break would be a good start. A watermark message or crawler would be nice too. They’ve just missed all their regular Friday night-only viewers who will tune in next Friday night not knowing wtf is going on.

WIN isn’t much better either. I’ll see 2 during prime time and that’s it.

Would hope by at least monday that both WIN and SCA stop promoting their old affiliates entirely.

Monopolies make things much less efficient because there’s no incentive to improve anything or keep prices competitive

Oh I’ve gotta know now. Considering it’s not on VAST this is interesting. Remote SDR setup, VLC streaming from a relative on the east coast? I can only guess.

A really really really really really tall antenna? :man_shrugging:

It’s a fair assumption that it’ll all come out of 7 (SC) Tasmania, I’d be very surprised if they end up moving presentation elsewhere again just for the noodle updates.

It’ll be interesting to see if they adopt 10’s News graphics though - if they do and can get a good enough keyed backdrop it shouldn’t be too bad (TDTs Nine branded noodle updates in Tasmania are a good example of this).

They should PM @SydneyCityTV for some ideas on 10 News style noodle updates!

Will the WIN News logo include the 9 dots similar to NBN News?

It looks like nothing will change according to the promos.
Looks like the same watermark, backdrop, and reporters.
The only change will be it statewide and starting at 5:30 I think.

Since they’ll be coming out of Hobart (and maybe Launceston too?) I think we’re in safe hands. Presentation quality on the updates for 7 Darwin and 7 Central (and 9 Tasmania) is fantastic.
