Ten’s TV Australia logo was 1991 so it would have been Blind Date, which was basically a Perfect Match reboot.
It was axed at the end of the year IIRC. It returned in 1991 as Blind Date.
This is a snippet from the end of the series finale in 1989. Greg Evans says that they made 1350 episodes since the show started on 30th January 1984.
Does anyone remember the Shelley Craft Perfect Match in the early 2000’s on seven?
Sadly, yes. ![]()
The one co-hosted by Agro, yes…
And Shelley Craft’s final project for Seven—were they trying to capture a Daryl and Ossie vibe or something? Because that whole wannabe Hey Hey energy definitely didn’t fit the tone of a “match-making” show.
I thought she was still doing the Great out Doors for some time after.
Shelley left The Great Outdoors in 2007.
And Agro replaced Dexter.
Agro replacing Dexter would have been part of the reason for its failure. The other reason was already sighted by Greg Evans when he spoke about why Blind Date failed - Its audience moved on. With aggregation across regional markets would have had some impact but also by this stage Wheel Of Fortune had moved to 5:30pm capitalising on the absence of a game show at 5:30. This is where Ten missed the boat when Sale Of The Century was “rested” by Nine. A good quality game show at 7pm could have capitalised on the absence of game shows on Nine.
@AustralianAerial, can I please post one of your past videos in this thread?
Nine brought SOTC back in 2005, and rebranded it into Temptation, but it didn’t have the same feel with its precessor back in its heyday.
I think when Nine changed the name to “Sale of the New Century” in 2000, removing Nikki, having eliminated contestants and that metallic set that looked the Starship Enterprise was the signs that this show was done…
Messing with a true and tested formula does that, and the audience responded accordingly.
They kinda jumped the gun by renaming it Sale of the NEW Century.
Does anyone remember the Shelley Craft Perfect Match in the early 2000’s on seven?
Yes, Seven commissioned it on the strength of a Perfect Match compilation show featuring interviews with Greg Evans, Kerrie Friend, Debbie Newsome and various contestants. It aired on 10 not long before Seven’s revival.
The 35th anniversary of Law & Order franchise was acknowledged at this year’s Emmy Awards. L&O premiered on NBC on September 13, 1990.
Why is “Grover” from Sesame Street appearing at 0:06 in that video?
I was wondering that too! It might be a very tenuous link to Mahna Mahna - but AFAIK Grover never appeared on The Muppet Show!
Interesting to see this station ident consisting of the “Colour My World” was made in 1979, was still being touted 4 years after colour TV was introduced in 1975.
