Capital 7 couldn’t move to 10 as it already had two relay stations on said frequency.

Three relay stations, Goulburn, Woden and Cooma.

They probably could have moved all of those to 7 and moved the main TX to 10.

Cooma wouldn’t have been able to move to 7 due to having Channel 8 at Brown Mountain.

Possibly… BUT Brown Mountain and Mt Roberts (CTC Cooma) are 75 kms apart, so most folks in the area would have needed a different antenna for each.. so could possibly have worked?

When did CTC open a relay station in Woden?

They first started operating back in December 1976.

it would have been confusing for those with turn-dial knobs to change the channel:
CTC - 10 affiliation on VHF Channel 7 (VHF channel 10 in Woden, Goulburn and Cooma)
ABC - VHF channel 9
SBS - UHF channel 28
WIN - 9 affiliation on UHF channel 31
CBN (Prime) - 7 affiliation on UHF channel 34.

Also at Mt Dowe it would be confusing as NEN (Prime) had a 7 affiliation since 1989 on VHF Channel 9.

Or in the North West NSW / Tamworth area, where 9-8 Television became the 7 affiliate (as Prime) but the ABC was already on 7. And the local Nine affiliate (NBN) was on UHF 31.

Probably lots of examples like this back in the early 90s!

So, it wasn’t a permanent one?

From what I can gather, it was gradually moved to a more permanent site in 1978.

That’s from the WIN SA feed, South East SA viewers wouldn’t officially get a standalone Network Ten channel from WIN until 1st January 2004. From there, SES became a sole Nine affiliate and that would last until September 2007 when it became a Seven affiliate. South East SA viewers wouldn’t get Nine again until 2009.

It’s actually WIN WA.

WIN SA was using this style of PRG:

Didn’t realise that was the WA one, thanks for that! :+1:

TNQ7 and RTQ7 became 10 and 9 affiliates respectively. In the TNQ7 exsmple, its junior partner was FNQ10, much in the same way CTC7-10 was set up.

Interestingly, when TNQ (on air known as QTV) lost the Nine affiliation in an interview, the then TNQ Chairman Jack Gleeson made a statement surrounding going for 7 or 10 affiliation. It indicated to me that he didnt realise that Sunshine Television had locked 7 in as its metro partner.

Also wasnt the 7 affiliate in Tasmania on Channel 9?

i think that was different.

CTC10 was just a straight relay/translator of CTC7 within CTC’s coverage area. It was the one licence.

FNQ10 was a separate licence/coverage area to TNQ7 though TNQ operated both channels as a common schedule. But AFAIK each of TNQ and FNQ had separate studios/operations.
