The 2 year ABC DRM trial from Wangaratta was excellent. Signal in Bendigo was marginal but the DRM never dropped out. I think DRM is a no brainer for regional digital radio. So much cheaper and the existing frequency can be used along with the analogue.

Flicked on 101.1 2LT on the car radio, on Ray Hadley this morning 2LT was having similar issues to 99.5 Move fm. It was only very slight but still noticeable.

I just want to say congrats to MediaSpy members from 6News and StarterFM on their excellent digital presence.
The 6News website looks to have been given a recent facelift - and is much simpler & less cluttered.
And StarterFM - well they seem to be the home of really cool graphic & web design. I know it has been mentioned before, but I too really think Starter should/could do a deal with BOG to upgrade some of their metro, digital & regional websites.

A local business that now listens to 4BH,they used to listen to 4KQ,THE Tyrepower Store in Morningside ,I noticed this afternoon when I was there inquiring about new tyres for my Mazda ,

Itās tomorrow ,Friday 30th June,4BH have managed to fill the gap in the market left by the demise of 4KQ ,but I know a lot of people especially radio listeners over 55,still miss them

Yep, I remember the last time I was at Tyrepower about 18 months ago they were on 4KQ. The lady who runs it is very nice there.

this is interesting but if i was an advertiser is it of value to me? If iām advertising Daveās Plumbing and i only service Brisbane, why do i care if someone in Cairns is listening? i certainly wouldnāt be increasing my spend due to this, and iād be pretty unhappy to find my rates went up due to listeners in longreach.

I agree. I think they need to look at merging some LAPās. Brisbane and Ipswich spring to mind. Also Gold Coast and Murwillumbah. Sunshine Coast and Gympie. They really need to clean up SEQ as probably the most urgent. Itās a mess. Sydney and Katoomba is another one, but perhaps a bit more contentious.

Wollongong & Nowra is another one where LAPs could merge. If that were to happen, then ARN would have to sell one of the stations, as they would be owning 3 in the merged licence area. This would also allow Wave & Power to have separate music logs from one another.

Iām not sure they would force sales if they merged LAPs. It would probably be āgrandfatheredā as they say. But yes Wollongong and Nowra is definitely one.
I also think the 2 station ruleās days are numbered.

If LAPs are merged or scrapped, what will that mean for transmitter specs? As LAPs were used to determine what ERPs stations needed to cover that area.

They would have to work through each one. I donāt think theyāll be scrapped altogether soon but some could be merged. If that happened I would say they could say that operators would still have to apply and be approved to change any specs.

I think the LAPās area overall need to be looked at but they are area where they should change but they should be here
but I think the 2 Station Rule should go.

Smaller regional areas could be merged into one area covering the whole state. Regional SA, Regional WA (merge Perth and Mandurah) and all of Tasmania and Northern Territory.

I donāt think Perth stations will be too happy about that. Nova and ARN in particular will complain that this will affect the value of their licences if Mandurah stations are allowed to āmoveā or expand into Perth (a bit like the 4IP and 3MP situations from the 70s or thereabouts).
