Don’t know how I got lumped with this, but it’s pretty funny. Last time I saw a radio show’s ad ripping on itself was back when I was at CSU in the 2MCE/Studio 4 days. One of the shows posted ads around the dorms with a letter they had received from the management.
Another couple of coverage transmitters…
I finally got my multi-band AM/FM/SW/LW radio from Wish this week, and had a play with it as well as take it to the A-League match in Newy this afternoon.
Essentially, this will be a replacement for my SportsEars unit, which has finally crapped itself late last year, as well as the Jaycar unit, which turns itself on with even the slightest accidental bump of its buttons. It may even replace my SoundDec unit for the cricket if what I’ve read is to be believed.
It can pick up stations from 522khz to 1620khz and 87-108Mhz fine, sounds decent enough, so as an everyday radio it’ll do the trick.
Haven’t had the chance to test out the SportsEars frequencies (70.4 and 77.4) yet, obviously as the NRL and SuperRugby seasons haven’t started.
Tested out the unit’s ability to receive the extended FM and TV band channels, and for the most part, provided you are not sitting behind eight teenagers all on phones and pointed in the right direction, it does work. As mentioned, I was able to get the refs frequency, Fox Sports commentary and IIRC, ambience (i.e. the crowd) on several frequencies in these bands, but as it was a windy day, and prone to interference. The fact that you can save these frequencies to the memory is a big plus.
I intend to take it to the Kings games next weekend to see if I can get anything in Qudos Bank Arena.
The item is here on Wish.
Looks like a good little radio for the money (A$34).
It is listed under multiple brands, but they are essentially the same item.
Trying to add the presets is a pain, still trying to do that with the manual nearby.
One thing to note that with the extended bands it was pretty sensitive to where you sit and where you point the aerial. The A-League uses the system SportsEars is based off, but without access for the general public. I had to point the aerial down towards the pitch and hold it vertically.
It wasn’t listed on the database I checked - but that was out of date. Found it on a newer list - 2 sites each 30w - one near the airport and the other on a new settlement area to the north of the main settlement. The main site in town is 10w.
I was in Oberon the other day and noticed their local radio station (somewhere around 88.0 IIRC) had a really bad echo effect in the main township. Either they were using multiple transmitters that weren’t synched properly or they had some extreme multipath problems.
Brilliant, absolute legendary. ![]()
Anyone Listen to BBC Radio 2, just sampling it now and this to me is how a radio station should sound! so Well produced and a great variety of music!
I believe @Brianc68 is a regular listener. I tune in occasionally as well. UK stations do ‘personality’ radio much better than anyone else. It’s a bit ‘Hello Mrs. Jones’ at times but certainly beats the drivel that characterises most of the output of Australian commercial radio.
I prefer Radio Caroline as it’s better aligned with my tastes in music. But BBC2 play a lot of decent stuff as well, varied too. Radio Jackie is another one with a good sound.
Yes I agree, Zoe Ball on the breakfast show today was a bright a bubbly personality. Quite enjoyed the upbeat nature.
I’ll give that a go, judging by your show, we have similar tastes:), are they both on tunein?
As far as I’m aware. The Radio Caroline app gives Now Playing info; I think it’s $2 or something like that. I often download the shows from here too:
The BBC also have their own app of course.
Im not a fan of too many apps, prefer the directory apps, tunein & iheart etc. But if needed i will ![]()
Yep, that’s it. I have ditched TuneIn for MyTunerRadio…the latter has ads that are annoying as f**k but it seems to be more comprehensive, for example it’s the only app with 2SEA Eden.
Do you know by any chance if mytuner has Android Auto Capability, I cant find that on the app description? One Reason I stick with Tunein
Yep I listen every day at work in the mornings. From about 10am Brisbane time it’s the midnight to 3AM show with OJ Borg which I really enjoy. Well produced and fun and with a great variety of music. It’s the diverse music I like and the mix of old and new. Often after 3AM they do an hour of the 80s or 90s too which is great.
I don’t mind Zoe Ball at breakfast. But Vanessa Feltz who is on just before Zoe I find extremely irritating for some reason, so I usually flick over to Absolute or Radio Caroline then.
I also listen quite a bit to Absolute Radio, Absolute 80s and Radio Caroline at other times. Absolute 80s is probably my favourite after BBC 2.
I use an app called Radio UK which can access BBC, Absolute and Radio Caroline amongst many others.
Yes she did sound kind of off-putting. But I liked Zoe.
OJ Borg should be on breakfast…have your OJ with OJ.
