While we’re on the subject of 2UE, did the highlighted logo ever get much usage during that weird period between the 1996 logo design being retired and the introduction of the corporate Southern Cross look?

From the 2005 Sydney Royal Easter Show Media Guide via archive.org, the full thing seems to have been saved albeit spread across several PDF files.

Obviously the following year, the 2UE logo included was the Southern Cross one. Actually a reasonably good source of high quality logos for about 60% of Sydney’s commercial radio stations back then.

The Mix 106.5 logo in that PDF was a bit broken, but certainly not beyond repair. Between that and one of the old “station guides” from the Digital Radio Plus website, I managed to stich together high quality versions of the 2004-09 Mix 106.5 logo:

Mix106.5Logo2004-09V1

Mix106.5Logo2004-09V2

While not quite 100% perfect (especially #2, you can blame GIF compression for the different colouring of #1), I hope my high quality versions are reasonably faithful to the originals!

If you listen to commercial radio between 10pm and midnight, most stations are playing close to 100% Australian music.

Quite an obvious way to cheat the local content requirements

It’s a disgrace that they do that and get away with it.

yep. the requirement should be per hour, not per day.

True, but they’ve been getting away with it for years. Even back in the '80s stations would have shows like “Home Grown” with a focus on Australian artists, but it would be buried at 10 or 11pm so it was out of the mainstream but still counted to the quota.

I try and play at least 20-30% Australian music per hour in my show, even though it’s not required. Some shows may have more and some less; this is an average.

Not sure if this is the right thread, however I listen to Smooth FM on Sonos via Tune In. However it drops out constantly and almost reboots the session and keeps playing the same ad over and over.

Does anyone have any suggestions around getting around this?

What if you try a different app. eg Radio App and/or over Bluetooth?

Good idea ha. I’ll give it a whirl.

Made up radio station in the McDonalds ad, 2YO.

And it gets a more professional looking logo than some “real” stations!

They could have used ‘2MCD’ as I don’t think that callsign is used here.

“2MCD with Big Mac to start your day, driving you thru the morning. Unless it’s a Sundae of course.”

Starship - “We Built This City” is now playing on both Star 104.5 and WSFM at the same time

Both stations have quite different playlists and demos, but they both love that track.

Is there a set top box for tv and FM or DAB or both available? Thanks

One possible solution. Get a PVR / DVR instead of a set top box to receive TV. That will have an antenna input and output. The output is designed to provide a signal to a TV but you could use it to plug into an FM radio and it might let through the FM frequencies as well. So you wouldn’t have to get the splitter.

However, note that the DTV antenna designed to receive TV from Melbourne (channel 6-12) isn’t designed to pick up FM radio which is on the old TV channels 3-5.

The guys who run DCFM 88 have relaunched Koool Digital as an online station http://koooldigital.net

How did they get the rights for the logo use, etc?

References to competing radio stations made on air today

Instance # 1 - Coast FM Gosford - during “Soundtrack Of The 80s” this afternoon, the announcer commented on the The Church’s hit “The Unguarded Moment” and how it came at # 57 in a Triple M Greatest Songs countdown.

Instance # 2… or almost… on WSFM this afternoon, the announcer commentated on upcoming songs in the next hour and said “… as we Triple your… (slight pause) WSFM”… I did wonder he had forgotten if he wasn’t on Triple M for a minute (I think it was Steve Fitton that was on - he might have worked at Triple M in the past perhaps?).

I have a digital tv antenna pointing to Mt. Cootha which is picking up all Brisbane FM stations as well as Breeze 92.1 and Rebel 90.5 and 92.5 Gold Coast( only in mono) but can’t get River 94.9 I live in Logan.

That’s about what to expect from a digital TV antenna in the Logan area. Just reception of the strongest stations around the 35km mark, but not ideal for reliable reception of Melbourne from Traralgon which is about 80km.

Also, I’m not aware of an antenna that includes Band III (channels 6-12) plus Band II (FM).
