Oh goodness wow. I hadn’t heard that song in over 15 years!

River 94.9 from Ipswich is in the Legacy Way tunnel in Brisbane’s inner west but that might be just inside the Ipswich radio licence area, not sure. It’s not in the other Brisbane tunnels.

That Vast CH800 Loop is still on 1611 AM Darwin. It’s been there a while now. It must be cheaper to play the same song over and over than renting it out temporarily to a different client.

Or someone just LOVES that song!

What a horrible user experience. Good way to get me to close the site off and not read it.

Oh, they wish, Richard Burns would move back from Alaska for that.

Boundary is the legacy Ipswich/Moreton council boundary pre BCC transfer of Carole Park, Mt Crosby, Karana Downs, Chuwar etc. This was a part of the successful AAT challenge against licence conditions restricting 4MIX broadcasting Brisbane content.

I agree entirely @Moe. As soon as they added that I just stopped bothering to even visit their site.

Doesn’t clicking “No Thanks” stop it?

Does anyone know why 2GB transmits at 6000 Watts or (6kw) vs the others being 5kw?

Yes, but they also have them embedded in their articles as well. Plus to be asked every time it just isn’t worth it when I can reader better news on here or other sites.

Yes they get the extra power to overcome the mismatch losses in the antenna (mast), it’s had a lot of work done to it with loading coils, etc. but there’s still a mismatch & losses, as the original antenna is tuned for 2KY on 1017, to frequency match or make it electrically most efficient would need to be much taller (longer wavelength), 2CH also got a power increase for the same reason, except the antenna (mast) is too tall (long) in their case, this combined with combiner losses gave them reduced radiation at 5kW over what they had at their other sites with the antennas being much more closely matched, 2KY get combiner losses as well, but because the antenna is essentially matched to their frequency, the losses are much less & negligible in relation to the others.

Sorry if that’s too technical, you asked a question that’s not easy to answer in a non technical way.

For those who don’t know, 2GB moved from their own site (not combined with anyone else), & 2CH moved from another site combined with SBS on 1107, to be all combined on the 2KY 1017 site/antenna.

Thanks, no it explains it, it was the answer I was interested to know.

Just as an addition for more information, 2KY is 5kW, 2GB is 6kW, SEN 1170 has day/night switching & is 5kW by night, 7.5kW by day, they also have licences (but not granted, i.e. active) for day/night switching at 7.5kW by night, 10kW by day.

I’m sure you will find 4BC & 4KQ in Brisbane also now broadcast with more zap than the original 5kW due to interference and poor signal and 3MP got a power upgrade as well for 1377 so this isn’t uncommon

Did 3MP wind up the power (so to speak) in the end? I can’t tell much of a difference from the MTR days west of the CBD

David Kidd’s excellent article about music repetition in the last edition of the Nudge reminded me of one of my first great lessons about the issue of music repetition.

The year was 1983 and I had just taken over as Program Director of 4CA Cairns. A gentleman called to complain that we were playing the same songs too often.

Move fm and 2LT are off air at Wentworth Falls at present. The transmitter is running but just broadcasting dead air / open carrier.
Looks like their NBN and backup Telstra 4G STL links have failed.
I first noticed this around 2pm this afternoon. Obviously no one has reported it to them yet.

Just checked again now.

Still no audio - blank carrier on both 99.5 and 101.1.

Doesn’t look like it will be fixed until tomorrow.

I just tried to ring them their phone lines are down too.

My guess is they are experiencing NBN issues at their studios in Lithgow, which has killed their telephone lines and the STL link to Wentworth Falls.

I was emailing my 2LT contact last night. Storm yesterday 11am took out a big chunk of nbn services from Lithgow to blue mountains. Loss of signal on the FM translators from Lithgow to Wentworth Falls via nbn. Lost streaming services too.
