Random Mocks

I think you might be right on the money here.

So where does this leave Nine? Weren’t they after SCA? Does this keep the status quo now for them?

I think this latest SWM and SCA merger news has 100% ended Nine’s attempts to acquire SCA. It means Nine gets to keep their metro talkback and music radio stations in the long run.

The thing is, Seven is No.1 nationally. Hence as to why SCA is deciding to merge with Seven rather than Nine. Seven is now also the biggest TV network nationally, owning Seven Network stations pretty much everywhere in Australia except for the WIN Network monopoly markets of Griffith and South East SA.

(Mods, put this conversation where you see fit)
Interesting times with only 10 being the only media outfit now to not operate a radio/newspaper/digital service outside of linear television now.

7 will have SCA radio/The Nightly/7news.com.au & 7 news app
9 has the metro talk & music stations/9news.com.au & 9 News app/Stan
ABC has ABC RN, ABC Newsradio, ABC Classic, ABC Local, triple j, double j/abcnews.com.au & ABC News App

Looking at the TV side, SWM is the only commercial network to not have a subscription based streaming service. 9/NEC has Stan, and 10/Paramount Skydancehas P+ while 7 only has 7+. I remember around 2018 when 7 plus launched then said they would launched a paid version later but I guess that never happened.

Speaking of that, I’ve wasted no time in bringing up a simulation of what Seven’s ad breaks could look like once SWM and SCA both finally merge. This is based on a 7HD Wollongong ad break from 2nd September 2025 during Sunrise, out-of-market ads and a Sydney ad have been replaced with that of LiSTNR ones capped from 10 HD Wollongong back in January when SCA still owned CTC (10).

I would suspect the advertisers currently seen on 7HD Wollongong will remain the same, it’ll just be the LiSTNR ads that’ll likely start being broadcast on regular rotation that’s all.

They could either name themselves 7SCA, or how about…

Sorry, but it’s a dumb name. Moe suggested similar and I ignored it but you can’t cut Southern Cross in half - either you have both words or you cut it out entirely because it doesn’t make sense.

When TV3 (now Three) began transmission at 8pm on the evening of Sunday 26 November 1989 with a grand preview, regular programming began at 7am the next day with the Early Bird Show (featuring news updates on the half hour with Joanna Paul). Its flagship news service, 3 National News (see below), screened at 6pm with Philip Sherry at the helm.

I have two ‘what if’ scenarios to ask.

  1. What if TV3 had an early morning news bulletin (Daybreak - just before Sunrise as a breakfast television programme with half hourly news updates) and a midday news bulletin (Daywatch)?

  1. What if the title card of TV3’s late news bulletin, Nightline, looked like this?

I think it’ll be SCA7 (like Prime7, etc).

I think he is just having a joke, and of course it’s not a serious name, but it’s some good satire.

FYI, I am certain this was posted in the merger thread initially, has been moved to this thread. Explains why it was taken more seriously than “random mocks”.

Visualising my own random ideas…

Turning ‘Winning Arvo’ into an ‘afternoon show’, as was originally rumoured. Incorporated the frosted glass element in the news titles and rounding the corners.

“Behind the Lines, part of 10’s Late News. Now at 10.35, after Ursula at 10.”
The working name works better here methinks

Injecting some more pink in BBC’s new Politics Live supers.

This is a random concept i had, which would see Peacock launch in Australia under the name “emu”.

It would be in partnership with Channel 7 and see a majority of NBCU content shown, plus exclusive shows never before aired in Australia.

This is great, I was just thinking the other day how could 7 leverage Peacock for a local service.

Maybe this will work? (I know, not even close to the right font.)

My take on the Today refresh:

And i asked Google Gemini to edit the WWOS studio to make it more suited for Today. I couldn’t get it to remove the stadium roof or the blue lights. However i was in-visioning an AR mezzanine of a newsroom.

this is the best i could get with a mezzanie…

I quite like the skyline backdrop in that first set image.

Don’t really find the news super conducive to use on Today.
