Radio Stations - Music Logs

Though the heritage stations on the ARN regionals skew older than the Capital Rsdio Network stations do.

I hope if the ownership transition happens it would be nice if Triple M regional can use the 2st log. Better still stations like 2go make a comeback and use the 2st log.

Quite different. I don’t think Smooth or WS play as much 70s music these days as either station.

I just did the Smooth Log. Edit and the WS one, to me even I don’t listen often but the playlist seems to be similar and consistent every time I tune in.

Saturday Afternoon and All Day Sunday was networked from 2SM.

I have to say that this was one of the more adventurous playlists I have heard in quite a while. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the local programming on 2RE. A big well done to whoever programs the music locally. It would be a station I would listen to online during local hours if they streamed online!

A few standouts - Def Leppard’s Photograph! WOW! One of their first singles in the 80’s. I can’t remember the last time I heard that one on radio. Ditto with Freebird!
Prince - Get Off
would be suitable for the “Did They Really Play That?” threat. The announcer did back announce saying it was a kind of risque type song! LOL
Noiseworks & Kevin Borich Express - I had to Shazam these as I have never heard them before.
Peter Gabriel’s Steam - I couldn’t believe this one being played. A great radio song that’s so underrated!

Thanks for a bit of insight on the kind of songs that 2RE plays. :+1:

With a good radio, 2RE provides a very decent alternative to Triple M from Port Macquarie at the northern end & Newcastle at the southern end, given that the former’s signal spills over into parts of their respective licence areas.

I’d imagine that in the Port Stephens area, 2RE (along with Max 107.3) would be heard well there, where you also have the option of Port Stephens FM, Great Lakes FM & 2NUR FM.

Great effort!

Yes, 2RE does play some great songs that you only hear on community radio elsewhere.

I get fair reception here in Newcastle and a few of their songs have made my “Great songs on radio” posts since they moved to FM a couple of years ago.

Yeah thats a great log , I think regional stations under BOG seems give the programmers more freedom. Like 2bs has some great music.

2RE had a pretty good coverage down to Tea Gardens, then every so often would dip in and out to Newcastle. Decent reception on the M1 to about Morriset. Afterwards, it was the high parts of the M1 only - the furthest south I could pick up 2RE was Mt White, then another station took over on the frequency (after researching, it was Radio Skid Row).

I did listen to several of these stations. Max 1073 didn’t do much for me. I did flick over a couple of times during the brekky show and the announcer was banging on about astrology during the 2 talk breaks I heard - was quite boring.
One night, I listened to Great Lakes FM
a young presenter was on, who I though was quite good playing a mix of music from 90’s to today.
I had a listen to Hit Port Macquarie while they were local 9am-12pm - the music was what you’d expect, but I have to say, the young announcer, I think she said her name was Hope, was very good. She’ll definitely be snapped up by a larger station soon.
Didn’t catch 2NUR or Port Stephens FM.
The last station I happened to pass by was StarFM
didn’t take too long to keep going
jingle, fake call about how good the breakfast show is, then annoying jingle into break! Uggh!
The definite highlight was the music mix on 2RE while local

Late last year, I drove between Brisbane and Sydney for the most part, listened exclusively to BOG stations.
Didn’t listen to 2LM or 2GF as they were on relay.

Triple Z and 1047 Grafton were local, each with different music logs and you could tell the announcer was local.

I also listened to 2HC Coffs Harbour and Super Radio 531 93.5 Port Macquarie (They really need a proper name) during their local hours - both had different playlists and the talk breaks were about local issues/events. John O’Callaghan in Port Macquarie sounds so much like his legendary father
and he was filling in as local newsreader in Taree late last week.
Then of course Taree - MAXFM & 2RE.

It got me thinking
while there is a lot of criticism about the network, the local offerings are very good, with passionate on air staff that do a great job
If the network were to be sold off, we’d lose all of this!

Further to what you’ve said Laoma, my guess would be the stations like 2HC and 531 (where they only have 3 local hours), the local announcer would probably be the music director and would program the music for their shift themselves.
I know there are a few BOG employees here
would that be correct?

Yeah it appears that way. I don’t know for sure. I am sure most people in music radio behind the mic would love the freedom to control the music. I suppose in the BOG empire under some circumstances one can do this. The retro radio countdown I think is another example there is some freedom as well (maybe within reason). Heard on regional ARN stations.

Hope Endean is her name:

Heard her on Grafton’s 104.7 and was impressed. Some people are natural on air and although sounding young, you can tell Hope will do well.

That 2RE log is great
88.9 seems to be the frequency for fun!

I would never get away with playing ‘Gett Off’ on the Conga Line. I got a formal complaint for playing Puddle Of Mudd’s ‘Control’ last week!

I hope you have an opportunity to respond.

It’s been sorted out now. But from here on in, let’s just say I’ll be very conservative with the music I play. At least I know I have listeners

That probably says a lot about radio in this country.

Unable to push the boundaries for fear of listener/ACMA repercussions.

Mind you, for every 1 complaint, there’s probably 99 others who liked or didn’t mind, but you rarely hear about that.

This won’t affect 99.9% of what I play as most of it is pretty straight down the line pop/rock, but it is slightly frustrating that the minute I test the boundaries a tiny bit I get castigated. That tends to happen a bit in life so it is what it is.
