Hoo boy, that Rick Dees track. Mum had that on a compilation album, something like Ripper 76 or the like? Genuine wrong song.
And I still maintain that the album version of Treaty is far superior to the dance remix that made it a big hit. Also cannot believe I never picked until recently that Tim Finn donated his vocals to the key line in the chorus - it’s more noticeable in the remixed, but so obvious once you know.
There’s a good book by Matthew Garrick on Yothu Yindi. I’ve always been curious as to how they started and how they managed to burn the charts in the 90s, like Hammer.
(Disclaimer, the author was a year above me in high school, though I didn’t really know him)!
Disco Quack was actually a request, though that was probably inspired by ‘Disco Mouse’ last week.
I played ‘Convoy’ because I discovered ‘Disco Duck’ in my last year of school. A parent who used to catch the train in with us knew it well and also mentioned ‘that CB radio song’. Of course I had to hunt it down and thus I was now a connoisseur of wrong songs.
With the latest discussion going on in the “ARN acquisition of Southern Cross Austereo” thread, I thought it would be good to compare the playlists of Triple M Regional & ARN Regional’s current ‘ex-Grant’ AC stations.
Firstly, to the current Triple M Regional network.
Triple M Regional “Good Times & Greatest Hits” Monday 26th February 2024 - 1-2pm
“A Kind of Magic” Queen
“Lightning Crashes” Live
“Flashdance…What a Feeling” Irene Cara
“No Such Thing” John Mayer
“World Where You Live” Crowded House
“Sultans Of Swing” Dire Straits
“Let Me Entertain You” Robbie Williams
“Electric Blue” Icehouse
“Thinking Out Loud” Ed Sheeran
“White Wedding” Billy Idol
“Hole Hearted” Extreme
“Higher Love” Steve Winwood
And now to ARN Regional’s current ‘ex-Grant’ AC stations. This particular log is the one currently used by River 94.9 (which would be sold off to ACP if the aforementioned acquisition goes ahead), 3BA, Mix 104.9 & 7XS, as opposed to the 60s-00s playlist used by the likes of 2ST, 2EC & Zinc, as this would make a better comparison to the above Triple M playlist.
ARN Regional’s AC Log (River 94.9, 3BA, Mix 104.9 & 7XS) Monday 26th February 2024 - 1-2pm
“Real World” Matchbox 20
“Cruel Summer” Taylor Swift
“When I Come Around” Green Day
“Total Eclipse Of The Heart” Nicki French
“St Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)” John Parr
“Way Down We Go” Kaleo
“Lightning Crashes” Live
“Hurt Somebody” Noah Kahan / Julia Michaels
“Our Lips Are Sealed” The Go-Go’s
“Black Fingernails, Red Wine” Eskimo Joe
“Hold On” Wilson Philips
“Barbados” Models
“I Just Wanna Live” Good Charlotte
“Beds Are Burning” Midnight Oil
As you can see, ARN Regional’s AC stations tends to play a bit more of today’s pop music that would be considered ‘adult-friendly’, whereas Triple M Regional tends to not play as much newer music.

When stations flogged “Price Tag - Jessie J”, did they play the “regular” Youtube version or “clean version”?
91fm in Vietnam just played “regular” version, which seriously surprised me because I have always heard the “clean” version for all of my life. The first few seconds is the takeaway.
I had never had the (dis)pleasure of listening to that Puddle of Mudd cover of Nirvana until now, and I can safely say my life was better without it. Sorry for pumping up the tyres of said band in the Grant Broadcasters thread just before…
It apparently went viral in 2020, appropriately enough. This is just about the biggest turd I’ve ever come across, which makes it perfect for the Wrong Song.
‘Control’ is slotted in for the next show. Like you, I don’t mind their early 00’s hits.
Streamed a couple of hours of GNFM tonight… definitely looks like a “Forever Classic” regional format change, and sadly, not for the better.
Less 70s (maybe only 1 song per hour now), whilst there is more 80s, it seems safer than it used to be … not as much 00s as I was expecting, nothing in the 2 hours, but according to Lava they did play Avril Lavigne and Pharrell Williams earlier today.

Damn, that’s some ‘Wussification’. Maybe fattening the cow for a future megahyperglobalmart (ARN/SCA) takeover?
It’s a stark reminder that commercial radio is there for the advertiser (and the mean listener) and not the adventurous listener in the right tail. Us ‘right tailers’ many standard deviations away should listen to community radio. Lucky for those around Goulburn, there’s a certain station that fits the bill.
