I know what station Iâll be listening to now if I was living in Perth
Very much a safe as houses âgood times and greatest hitsâ log, wonât be long before Melbourne and Sydney adopts this format, both are getting that way!
I suppose this is a sly dig at 96fm, which used the slogan âKeeping Real Music Aliveâ for quite a while.
This reminds me of the Music That Rocks format that Triple M tried back in 2008 with some dance and rap.
Back then it was MGMT and the Potbellies, in 2022 it is Peking Duck, Swedish House Mafia, and Eminem.
This is quite different to the east coast Mâs. and looks to being skewing younger then the rest of the network.
Maybe they are trying to target Nova and 96fm?
Take out the glam metal stuff (Def, Aerosmith) and Midnight Oil and thatâs more or less my playlist anyway! Good log imo.
Thatâs a great playlist for Triple M Perth. Would love to hear something similar for Triple M Sydney.
those have destroyed the perth play list they are wtf moments

One of my favourite years of music, 1983. Made My Day / Tim Finn is a great feel good song, really takes me back. The Agnetha (ex-ABBA) song was great too, I remember I had the single. Not quite as good as Fridaâs I Know Thereâs Something Going On, but I liked it.
I actually like Agnethaâs âcanât shake looseâ, and her follow up single âWrap your arms around meâ so much better then Fridaâs âSomething goin onâ, which was rather cold and harsh. Didnât hate the song, it was just one of Fridaâs weaker tracks in my opinion.
It was fun tonight pulling out this list. Some of the other tracks that sat outside the 25 was Men without Hats âSafety danceâ which was a real party goer in those days, Tacoâs âPuttin on the ritzâ, Spandau Balletâs âTrueâ, Paul Youngâs âWherever I lay my hatâ, and Irene Caraâs âWhat a feelingâ.
At the time it seemed to have been around for eternity, that track was the longest running chart single in my charts that year By this week, âWhat a feelingâ had itâs twenty first week in, and would still hang around for another two weeks, I believe it was also the biggest selling single on the actual ARIA australian charts from that year.
The next two weeks after this chartt, theyâd be some absolute crackers for that year, including Australian Crawlâs âRecklessâ (a timeless classic), and the penultimate love ballet; Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack âTonight I celebrate my loveâ
I recall at the time âRecklessâ by Australian Crawl was huge, especially on Countdown. The video was great.
Iâm not surprised Flashdance (What A Feeling) was on the charts so long. It was a massive hit. Even the older generation at the time (eg my parents) loved that song. I still canât get enough of it today. Also loved her lesser hits Why Me and The Dream -both also from '83 too I think. Maniac was also a standout song on the Flashdance soundtrack.
Yeah I liked Agnethaâs Wrap Your Arms Around Me too. But have to disagree on Fridaâs song - one of my favourites still. I love it.
Safety Dance is just an iconic song from that year. Huge airplay here and a big hit in the US, but strangely not such a massive hit in their native Canada I believe.
Not sure if this is the right thread for it but is this where we would find playlists for Nova 96.9, KIIS1065 etc.? Would be keen to know what particular songs are played on the radio these days.
lava.net.au have playlists for most stations
Triple M have been playing some good tunes over the course of this month as part of Oztober. Itâs been more than the usual overflogged Aussie songs from Jimmy Barnes and Midnight Oil. Currently, they are doing the âOztober 300â countdown. This was a very good hour of music that I heard in full yesterday:
Triple M Melbourne
Oztober 300 Countdown (192-181)
25th October 2022
12:00pm - 1:00pm (AEDT)
You Got Nothing I Want - Cold Chisel
Hammerhead - James Reyne
Better Get a Lawyer - The Cruel Sea
Love In Motion - Icehouse
Catch My Disease - Ben Lee (surprised to hear this on Triple M)
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC
Sister Madly - Crowded House
50 Years - Uncanny X-Men
Where Do You Go? - Hunters & Collectors
Hungry Town - Big Pig
Better Days - Pete Murray
Kiss the Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain) - INXS
Would be great if they played some of this more often.
ben lee pete shit house otherwise good list fuck oztober bring back rocktober
I had a listen to the Triple M CQ today and it seems like the regionals are running there own Aussie countdown. It was nowhere as good as that log. What I heard anyway. Looks like the regionals got ripped off.
Youâll hear Uncanny X-Men and Big Pig in spades on community radio. I think of it as commercial radio handing out a treat every now and then. Why have a small square of chocolate when you can have the whole block?
