Radio Stations - Music Logs

Let’s compare the two for ourselves here, using the standard weekday playlist for both.

River 94.9 - Ipswich, QLD
“The Best Music Mix”
Thursday 15th September 2022 - 11am-12pm AEST

“Bring Me Some Water” Melissa Etheridge
“Clarity” Vance Joy
“You Don’t Treat Me No Good (Remix)” Sonia Dada
“Love Your Way” Powderfinger
“Burn For You” INXS
“Ex’s & Oh’s” Elle King
“Solid Rock” Goanna
“I’m Yours” Jason Mraz
“Don’t You (Forget About Me)” Simple Minds
“Lump” Presidents of the United States of America
“Sucker” Jonas Brothers

102.9 Hot Tomato - Gold Coast, QLD
“The Gold Coast’s Best Music”
Thursday 15th September 2022 - 11am-12pm AEST

“High Hopes” Panic! At The Disco
“Little Bit of Love” Tom Grennan
“Chandelier” Sia
“Sex & Candy” Marcy Playground
“Clarity” Vance Joy
“Cold Heart” Elton John / Dua Lipa / Pnau
“You Give Love A Bad Name” Bon Jovi
“A Million Dreams” Pink
“Am I Wrong” Nico & Vinz
“I Like You” Post Malone & Doja Cat
“If You Could Only See” Tonic
“Pleasure Love (Remix)” De Funk / Supafly

Ideally, Wave FM in Wollongong (which currently takes the same log as that of Hot Tomato above) would be better off taking the River log to differentiate themselves from i98 & Power FM, which the latter can be heard into much of the Illawarra quite clearly from the same tower as the other two stations, and uses the same log as that of Wave/HT. The station would also rate better than it currently does if it goes slightly more older.

While I’m here, here’s a log from i98 taken from that same hour to compare.

i98FM - Wollongong, NSW
“Feel Good”
Thursday 15th September 2022 - 11am-12pm AEST

“Bad Decisions” Benny Blanco / BTS / Snoop Dogg
“Closing Time” Semisonic
“Where Are You Now” Lost Frequencies / Calum Scott
“Late Night Talking” Harry Styles
“History” Joel Corry / Becky Hill
“Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous” Good Charlotte
“Snap” Rosa Linn
“The Fighter” Keith Urban / Carrie Underwood
“Phenomenon” LL Cool J
“Stay” The Kid Laroi / Justin Bieber
“2 Be Loved” Lizzo
“Bones” The Killers

3 awful playlists. I’ll keep River off my favourites for the time being again.

Yeah River is horrendous at the moment. I put it back on m pre-sets after 4KQ but that lasted about a week.

Bloody hell, Sex & Candy***and Tonic in the same log, in 2022? In amongst the usual modern dreck, no thanks.

***Yes, I played this on The Conga Line, but it was a request

Wow, what a headache-inducing combination. Especially with that “Ex’s & Oh’s” song - I remember when it was first released, and it was an instant tune-out for me.

Flicking between stations last night driving home from Geelong and K rock segued from Katy Perry - California Gurls into Jimmy Barnes - Ride The Night Away. Who is this format meant to be targeting?

The good burghers of Cat City have been asking that for years (decades?) now.

what marcy playground tonic and bon jovi are better than the rest off that log from hot tomato what is there format

The general gist of the complaints is that you shouldn’t be playing rock hits next to the latest crap from The Kid Laroi or whoever. Flow is important in radio.

That said, certain community radio programmes have been known to do it…in a more adventurous way.

Marcy Playground and Tonic are probably better than the contemporary pap, but they are still mediocre songs for their era. Inoffensive enough I guess to be audio wallpaper…and that’s probably why they survive on commercial radio to this day.

It’s so bizarre isn’t it. There is no curation of the playlist at all, it’s just a scattergun approach. Do they think the audience wants this? Or they just can’t be bothered programming it?

i98 has the best playlist IMO. Hot Tomato’s has some good songs, but still very safe. River’s log is awful.

Not sure if anyone else on here has listened to Power FM over the weekend, but the log was excellent today. I tuned in to Power FM Musswelbrook and was very impressed by the variety.

Funny you should say that (I drove to Cessnock and back today) and for the first time ever I didnt bail from Power FM as soon as I topped the hill out of Muswellbrook southbound and left it on all the way to the Nock and all the way back to the top of the range at Murrurundi. The music was great and Dylan was right in the pocket. Enjoyable listen today :+1:

The only thing i did notice was how much fuller 92.9 Tamworths on air sound was when I switched at the top of the range at Murrurundi so Power FM could still wind there processing up a bit more

I am assuming Power Muswellbrook uses the same log as Power FM Nowra? I have noticed they’ve gone a bit more general AC with plenty of 90s and even 80s hits in the mix.

That’s correct, and Wave FM uses the same log as well. With that in mind, in the context of the Wollongong market, it’s good that they’ve gone a bit more general AC to provide a bit more point of difference to the dominant i98.

Who is the MD? Where is it scheduled from?

Hello there. So after a few attempts I’m finally complete a manual music log for 91fm Saigon, my favorite radio station. As I have said before somewhere, 91fm music is always picked manually, and it’s not pre-scheduled. As a consequence, automatic playlist display is not available, but I’m finally compiling the “playlist” on my own. See and tell me what you think when you look at this playlist - for me I feel like this is when Mix and KIIS strangely come together…

12:40AM to 2AM

Rockabye - J.Fla
Payphone - Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa
Power - Hardwell & KSHMR
Remember - KATIE ft. Ty Dolla $ign

There are no commercials, news bulletins or any clutter: the next song would be played straight after the previous song. There are only three voice break/sweeper throughout this block: one to welcome, one to close the block, and the middle which is purely used for identification: “You’re listening to the music on 90FM and 91FM of the Voice of Vietnam”
