Radio Stations - Music Logs

FOX and Smooth are not oldies formats. FOX is a hit music station with some 90s and noughties throwbacks, and Smooth is an easy-listening pop station, which plays 80s, 90s and noughties.

I would even say Triple M plays quite a lot of 90s and noughties rock - so that is hardly an ‘oldies’ station.

Really, only Magic and 3MP would fall into this category - over 50s. Gold FM over 40s. Smooth FM over 35 females.

I would love to see that. There is a gap in the market for this type of station in Australia.

Wow I remember those days. When I lived in Western Sydney I once chased the orange 96.1 road rager car around for tickets to a party at Kaos nightclub. Never got them. I even think it was sponsored by Hawkesbury Valley Holden.

Thought my memory was faulty re. Kaos nightclub but looks like it wasn’t after all! I was only in primary school back then. Definitely remember the Hawk Holden ads though with Robert? and Norrrrmma.

Can’t be a hit music format if they’re playing tunes from 2 decades ago.
In the 90’s I was in high school, now I’m 46.
Radio needs to get with the times & be an innovator

100% RnB and Hip Hop. Well, we can’t accuse them of not servicing their listening areas, lol

They are pretty much that now, why do they have to relaunch, I see it as a pointless exercise. Mike E and Emma’s breakfast show was to Edgy for where they want to take the station, fine launch a new breakfast show.

The Edge 96.1 rates well in Sydney’s dab+ ratings, but poorly nationally.
Relaunching it and simulcasting it on dab+ nationally with Sydney content and ads will have the same results. I actually think they will be worse off for loosing Mike E and Emma.
Why so much effort for a station that is not included in the Sydney GFK ratings??

If you look at North America though, it’s similar to Australia. Even big markets like Chicago and LA only have one or maybe two purely CHR stations, and they are also rans in the ratings. The stations at the top are dominated by AC, Soft AC, hot AC, classic hits and classic rock.

I do agree a commercial version of BBC R1 would be good though.

Sea FM is not to my taste at all.
The songs on Triple M are good, but they’ve all been flogged to death - sometimes for decades.
Hot Tomato is probably the one I would pick, but even it’s not exactly an inspiring mix.

Exactly. I’ve even heard announcers say “There’s this great new track by artist X, check it out on streaming sites. Coming up next, one of their old classics!” (paraphrased).

Absolutely laughable.

Comparison of Hot Tomato Gold and Zinc 96 FM this morning.

The Hot Tomato list is an export from DAB+ text. The Zinc log is a straight export from the RDS broadcast. The RDS included time codes. It shows the extra songs inserted into the playlist. Much of the time, the same song is playing on both stations.

Whoopsie, I’ve even played it twice recently on my show, once in my six hour 1983 special at the end of March, and on my april fools day novelty songs special. Thought I was the only one who remembered this absolute 80s gem.
